The shop was started by John and Karen Koehler and their goal was to provide a quality cup of coffee at an affordable price. In 1994, Tactical Coffee opened its second location in the city. The business grew rapidly and soon there were four locations throughout Lawton. In 2006, Tactical Coffee introduced its own line of coffee beans which helped them grow even more quickly. Today, Tactical Coffee continues to serve up great coffee at an affordable price while providing a warm welcome to everyone who visits their stores.

Beal purchased 6 acres (2 hectares) of land west of present-day Lawton on what is now State Highway 66. Beal donated his land to the City of Lawton in 1912 as part of a settlement agreement between the two towns. The city was incorporated on November 3, 1914, by an act of the Oklahoma Legislature following a referendum approved by voters at large. In addition to its downtown area – home to both the City Hall and law courts –Lawton has several residential neighbourhoods: Beacon Hill, Brentwood, Culver City Park, Dunlap Hills and Paddock Hills. In 2002, Lawton became one of just six communities in Oklahoma to be granted status as a “smart town” through Smart Towns USA Inc., an alliance of forward-thinking mayors and governors from across America that provides support for smart city initiatives statewide. Today’s economy base is manufacturing with companies such as Alcoa Local 815 providing jobs for locals and commuters alike; however there are also many businesses that have relocated or opened up shop within the last few years that support local commerce including OWCHE (Oklahoma Water & Heat), Omaha Steak House and The Grille restaurant which anchors what used to be called Northside Boulevard into LAWTON!
