The city of Lawton was founded by General Sam Houston in 1836 and was one of the earliest communities to join the U.S. Army. In 1907, the City Council decided to erect a statue of Admiral David Denny as a recognition for his service during World War I and also for his contributions to naval warfare. The Navy purchased land east of town for $1,000 from J.C. Hardenbeck, who had donated land to become Lawton Park. On November 15, 1912, President William Howard Taft dedicated Naval Station Lawton on land that now includes Naval Air Station Tulsa (now Tulsa Memorial Airport). The first military contingent arrived at Naval Station Lawton on December 5th, 1914 with 21 enlisted Marines under command of First Lieutenant John Paulding III “Pappy” Boykin Jr., Commander USS Enterprise (CV-6) Squadron 7 aboard USS Constitution (CV-18). At that time Navy commissioned ships were delivered only by Admirals and Commandants through an elaborate process involving visits by Captain James Cushing ashore at San Diego Harbor and then sailing back upriver to Stockton where they were unloaded and put into commission at Pier 56 before being reenterred into service under their own flag at Mare Island navy Yard until decommissioned in 1946. With World War II looming large over America it was inevitable that some new installations would be needed on our shores to support our defense efforts including Naval Station Lawton which became available after the war when surplus naval vessels were sold off following US entry into World War II without any prior warning or compensation to those affected such as ship owners who had paid for their warships originally built for another country but now found themselves forced to sell them because we were not allowed anymore entry into war based on our previous peace treaties! After many years of construction this 1,500 acre installation finally opened its doorsto civilians on October 15th 1951 when Commodore George Fenton relieved Commodore Wm Henson as Commandant Naval BaseLawTON sponsored a varietyof military functions including dances and parades along with exhibitions ranging from small boat races through airshows all while racketeering operations took place off shore! This was an important development as it marked the beginning of civilian control over what used to be a militaristic environment! Today NASL is homeported at Tulsa Memorial Airport serving law enforcement Agencies located throughout Northeastern Oklahoma including: Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office; Tulsa Municipal Court; Muskogee County Sheriff’s Office; Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office; Benque City Police Department; Canadian Forces Military Police detachment 2nd Battalion Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry stationed here since 1951 while also providing real world training opportunities for local police officers across Northeastern Oklahoma!!

Lawton is a small town located in eastern Oklahoma. The population was 1,836 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Lawton County and the largest city in the adjoining Cimarron County. Hebard and his brother-in-law Wm. L. Haney bought 160 acres (6 km²) of land from John Sweeny for $2 an acre. At that time, it served both Lawton and Cimarron Counties; however, only Cimarron County had a mail service to Lawton until 1912 when a new post office was built in downtown Lawton.
