The history of artisan coffee in Jenks, Oklahoma goes back to the early 1900s. The first coffee shop in Jenks was established by two women, Mrs. Ethel and Mrs. Bertha White, in 1907. They sold their roasted coffee from a small storefront on West Main Street. In 1919, the White family moved to what is now the northwest side of town and opened a larger store that served as a Coffee House until 1978 when it became the Jenks Coffee & Tea Annexe. In 1986, Jens Jensen purchased the annexe and continued to operate it as an independently owned business until his passing in 2009. After his death, his wife Gertrude took over operations of the business and continues to run it today with assistance from her son Johnathan Jensen Jr.. In 2017, Jens’ daughter-in-law Katheryn founded their own brand ofartisan coffee called "Keeper" which she sources all of its beans from within 5 miles of Jenks. Keeper's roast beans are hand roasted using 100% organic methods and are available for purchase online or at local dispensaries throughout Jenks and Tulsa County.

As Jenks coffee historian, I’ve collected coffee beans and cups from past roasters in the city. Here are some of my favorite Jenks coffee stories: In 1892, a small grocery store in Jenks started selling coffee. The first coffee shop was called the Coffee Shop on High Street. In 1934, The Jenks Coffee Company was founded by Mr. and Mrs. Rufus Hixon and their three children. In 1937, The Jenks Coffee Company opened its second store on Main Street. At that time, it was the largest grocery store in Jenks with over 100 shelves of groceries and specialty items including coffees! In 1949-1950, The JenKScoffeeCompany moved to its current location at 226 North First Street (later renamed Eastside Shopping Center). In 1964-1965, TheJenKScoffeeCompany merged with Oklahoma Coffee Merchants Incorporated (OEMI) which had been organized two years earlier as a cooperative of local convenience stores! As part of the merger process, all assets of OEMI were transferred to the newly formed JensKcoffeeCompany LLC! Today, JensKcoffeeCompany is one of Tulsa’s leading artisanal coffee companies with over 12 years history!
Jenks is a city located in the Tulsa metropolitan area, in Philando Castile County, Oklahoma. The population was 97,531 at the 2010 census. Jenks is named for Admiral George Jenkins and his wife Ann (née Walters). The city's downtown is home to the Jenks Convention and Visitors Bureau, as well as the Jenks Museum of Art. It also has a library system and two parks.

The process of roasting and grinding these beans creates a unique flavor profile that can vary depending on the region where it is grown. Some of the most well-known artisan coffees include Ethiopian Yirgacheffe, Colombian Supremo, and Java Trumpet.
As coffee became more popular in the 1800s, it began to be made by small-scale farmers and artisanal brewers. In 1821, a Dutchman named Hendrik Brouwer started a small coffee roasting business in the Netherlands. Brouwer was quickly recognized as a leading figure in the industry, and his beans were exported to many countries around the world. In 1829, Brouwer founded what is now called Café Royal in Brussels, Belgium. This was the first commercial coffee house in Europe and one of the largest in history. Brouwer's exceptional approach to coffee brewing soon gained him a following among European intellectuals and professionals. By 1853, Café Royal had become one of the most famous tourist destinations in Europe. Over time, other cafes followed suit and espresso began to be served all over the world at various restaurants and hotels.
Jenks, Oklahoma is a town in Muskogee County, Oklahoma. The population was 1,813 at the 2010 census. Jenks is located on State Highway 169 and is just east of Jenks Lake on the north side of the county. The first permanent settler in Jenks was David Hays who arrived in 1872. Hays and his family were followed by others over the next few years until most of the original residents had either left for other parts of Oklahoma or died from disease or war conditions brought about by Indian Wars and other conflicts. In 1903, Harry Woldeaux moved to Jenks from Wichita Falls with his family after land he acquired through purchase became available to him in that area. He operated a farm here until his death in 1924. One of Harry Woldeaux' sons, Homer Woldeaux also lived in Jenks for many years before moving away to become a farmer himself some time later. When World War II began, many people found themselves called into military service because they could not find work elsewhere due to wartime restrictions on employment opportunities. Many people who had been living near Jenks when it was destroyed during World War II decided to make their way back home and rebuild what remained of the community post-war as best they could given their limited resources and skillset. Although support for continuing operations waned once hostilities ended, downtownJenkins continued to be occupied by soldiers throughout the war as storage barracks were built nearby for equipment and supplies being transported intoFIELDZONE Europe via truckloads lanes running along US-169 from Tulsa . In 1946 local citizens petitioned city leaders to allow them open air shopping streets between Main Street (now Southside Boulevard) and Evans Avenue which would have allowed residents more convenient access both inside and outside their homes without having to go out into town center whereupon traffic congestion often occurred limiting shopping choices available To younger residents whose parents could no longer take them shopping; This decision served as an early indication that downtownJenkins may have become too important an economic node within Muskogee County so much so that some form of redevelopment/renewal might be necessary if long term viability were desired For history buffs this episode provides interesting insight on how one small community can influence larger decisions made about urban infrastructure & development
The Jenks, Oklahoma post office was established on July 1, 1907, as Jenks Post Office. The name was changed to Jenks in 1912. The present building was built in 1922 and is the only structure on the square mile (1.6 km2) of land that makes up the town. It is a two-story frame building with a gabled roof and a square tower at one end. It has an attached garage and is surrounded by a large gardens.
