The town was founded by settlers in 1907. It grew gradually until it reached its current size in 1950. In that year, it became an unincorporated community and remains so today. At its peak, the town had a population of 1,500 people. However, over time it declined as various businesses closed or changed their focus to other areas. The last resident left Guymon in 2006. Today, most of the buildings from when Guymon was a thriving community are gone and all that remain are some foundations and some abandoned cars on the edge of town square. However, there are still plenty of artifacts from when this small community was active – including several pioneer homes dating back to 1907 which can be seen for sale on local real estate websites today (though not for sale since they were acquired by another person). Guymon has always been known for its wild horses and pony herders who grazed their animals on the surrounding farmlands during summer months while also doing some kind of work on the land or working in nearby towns such as Durant or Jenks during winter months (grazing being one common activity among these horse herders). These herders would take their herds down into Limestone County to graze during the fall leaves before returning home during springtime; however, due to recent changes with regards to agriculture in central Oklahoma and restrictions placed onlivestock movements across state lines since passage of the Agricultural Act of 1949 (the late 19th century version of NAFTA), many these herds have all but disappeared nowadays given how difficult it is now to find any draft horses/ponies around hereabouts! Some remnant populations do exist south end up near Tulsa though 🙂
