Glenpool was founded in 1907 by pioneers John and Belle Haggerty. The name “Glenpool” comes from the Canadian River which flows through the town. The first residents of Glenpool were John and Belle Haggerty who settled on land near present-day Glenpool in 1907. In 1911, they opened a store and post office in what is nowknown as Glenpool Elementary School. They also built a home on current-day Glendale Drive. By 1915, they had acquired additional land and built a two-story frame schoolhouse on it which still stands today. In 1922, they added a second story to the schoolhouse and changed its name toGlen Pool High School). In 1951, Mr. and Mrs. Haggerty donated their home/school building (now known asOld Mill) tothe community for use as an educational institution that would eventually becomeGlen Pool Junior Senior High School*. In 1955, locals raised money for a new high school by selling bonds.. The first high school classes graduated from Old Mill on May 15th,. It was not until 1959 when Barton Community Schools merged with nearby McKinleyville High School thatGlenpool High School became Glenpool Junior Senior High School*. Barton Community Schools closed in 1993 butOld Mill continued to serve as an educational facility until 2006 when it was sold to Tulsa Independent Middle School* where it currently resides.* In 2006, after more than 20 years of service*, Old Mill property reverted backto GlennPool Village Inc., forming part of the core business district ofGlenn Pool!* Today’s Glendale Drive marks our history beginning with just one house! *As previously mentioned*, prior to 1978 all schools within this core business district were known as “Barton Community Schools”
