During the Vietnam War, Glenpool played a major role in supporting Operation Neptune’s Spear which aimed to stop North Vietnamese forces from invading South Vietnam. In 1986, a new Marine Barracks was built at Glenpool which served as headquarters for III MEF until it relocated to Camp Lejeune in North Carolina in 1995. Since its establishment as a Marine Corps Base, Bellefontaine has developed into one of the most important military installations within Oklahoma City metropolitan area with over 20 acres dedicated to military use including six runways and two airfields capable of handling variety types of aircraft including helicopters and jets; four enlisted barracks; several stores; an armory; mess hall; chapel; gymnasium; and an extensive weapons system storage area known as “the heart of operation” inside which are located more than 200 machineguns, artillery pieces, tanks and armored vehicles among other heavy equipment.

In 1916, Wm Henschel built an addition to his home at 412 S Main Street that served as the town hall until its demolition in 1971. Glenpool played an important role during World War II when munitions production took place there and other nearby towns such as Jenks and Newcastle contributed troops for service with the Allied forces throughout Europe and Asia Pacific theaters of war including Burma (now Myanmar), China, Japan, India, Indonesia, New Guinea and Southeast Asia.
