Glenpool is a small town in Price County, Oklahoma, United States. It is the seat of Price County and has a population of 538 as of the 2010 census. The name means "place where water flows uphill." According to oral tradition, the first coffee beans were roasted here in 1892.
The first grocery store in Glenpool was opened in 1916 by J.B. English and his wife Bessie English. In 1924, Rufus Hargrave opened the first gas station in Glenpool with service to local farmers and ranchers. In 1951, Harry Hargrave founded Hargrave's Hardware & Lumber Co., which became one of the most successful hardware stores in Oklahoma until it closed its doors in 1987.
In 1957, Bob Thornton opened The Bob Thornton Coffee Shop at 7th and Elm Streets; it remains open today as a full-service coffee shop/café with an extensive menu of baked goods, sandwiches, pastries and espresso drinks.
In 1978, David Sims opened The David Sims Coffee Shop at 12th Street and Elm Street; it remains open today as a full-service coffee shop/café with an extensive menu of baked goods, sandwiches, pastries and espresso drinks.
