Glenpool, Oklahoma is home to the Air Force Base Glenpool. The base was founded in 1942 and serves as a major air force airport for the Tulsa metropolitan area. The base also houses the world's largest paved runway with a length of 3,600 feet. In addition to its role as an air force airport, Glenpool is also home to K-9 units and the nationally acclaimed Tinker Air Force Base Flight Research Center. The first planes at Glenpool were some Anschutz F4U Corsair fighters that operated from nearby Tulsa Municipal Airport. The first significant aircraft arrival at Glenpool was a Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress bomber that arrived on October 1st, 1945. At that time, it was the largest airplane ever delivered to the Tulsa metropolitan area and served as the mainstay of the local fighter community until it was replaced by more advanced airplanes such as Lockheed P-38 Lightning pilots in 1949. During World War II, many military personnel from all over America came to fight in Europe while their families waited back home for them. Some of these soldiers brought their spouses with them and they settled down in Oklahoma City after returning from duty. This influx of servicemen left their mark on American culture and society by creating jobs for local citizens during wartime and later through post-war reconstruction efforts. One such group of servicemen who left an indelible impression on Oklahoma City was those who served in the United States Army's 2nd Infantry Division stationed at Fort Sill before being transferred onto Operation Crossroads which led to Japan's surrender; this event is often referred to as "The Day Of The Army." This group of soldiers are particularly famous for their song "America's Got To Get You Ready" which became popular among Oklahomans after they returned home following war hostilities ended. Following World War II, many new aircraft types were developed including jet aircrafts which would soon take up residence at other US airports like Wichita Falls (now Wichita), Dallas/Fort Worth (now Fort Worth) and Los Angeles (now LA). These advances in technology had a profound impact on warfare which ultimately led to increased military spending throughout America during peacetime years while reducing resources allocated towards nuclear weapons development; this shift has been dubbed "The Missile Age". It wasn't until 1970 when then President Richard Nixon ordered USAF General Curtis LeMay order airstrikes against Cambodia causing millions casualties along with Gary Hart becoming US president due largely to this policy change calledOperation Northwoods; both incidents helped contribute towards Nixon's impeachment proceedings two years later. During peacetime, the USAF provides much needed aerial support for law enforcement activities around the country and overseas through Operation Neptune Spear – which includes conducting airstrikes against ISIS targets in Iraq & Syria – as well as other counterterrorism missions such as Operation Wildfire.

However, it had a strong economy thanks to its manufacturing and agriculture industries. In 1924, Glenpool became an independent municipality when it merged with neighboring towns of Ada and Haskell. In 1940, it became part of the Tulsa metropolitan area after Tulsa gained city status. The town experienced a slow decline following World War II as production moved away from agriculture to defense needs. However, it regained some stability in the 1960s when oil drilling began making Glenpool one of the most active Petroleum settlements in Oklahoma. These days, Glenpool is home to a small population (less than 100 people) that relies mostly on tourism for income.

The town began as a small settlement on the banks of the Arkansas River and soon grew to become a cattle and grain center. In 1907, Glenpool became the first city in northeast Oklahoma when it was incorporated. The city experienced rapid growth during World War II, with population figures reaching more than 100,000 by 1945. However, during the postwar period Glenpool declined rapidly, shrinking to an estimated population of just 25 people by 1970. By that time, the city had lost its key economic interest and been abandoned. During the 1980s and 1990s however, growth resumed in Glenpool thanks to new development and increased tourism demand. Today, Glennpool is an important cultural center in northeast Oklahoma and remains one of its most vibrant communities
