Glenpool is a small town in west-central Oklahoma, United States. The population was 2,872 at the 2000 census. It lies along the Arkansas River and east of the Canadian province of Saskatchewan. The name " Glenpool" comes from two words: glen (a wooded area) and pool (a body of water). The first settlers in this part of what is now Oklahoma were farmers who came from Scotland in the 1860s. By 1881, there were 10 businesses in Glenpool and it had a population of 100. In 1900, there were only seven people living here but by 1910 there were over 200 residents. Glenpool experienced some significant growth during World War II when many men from the area enlisted in the military or went to work for defense companies. Many homes were rented out to soldiers and their families during the war years. After the war ended, many people returned to their original occupations but Glenpool continued to grow as a result of its close connection to industries such as agriculture, manufacturing, transportation, and banking. The population continued to grow until World War II when it dipped below 1,000 residents for the first time since 1907. After World War II ended, farms began to close and people moved out of their homes into smaller apartments or houses in search of new opportunities. This change caused significant traffic congestion on highway 8 which hindered economic development within the community . However, some new businesses cropped up during this time including an ice cream parlor, restaurant and convenience store . In recent decades ,Glenpool has seen steady growth with more people moving into the community ; however , traffic congestion is still an issue that affects daily life within the community
Glenpool is a small town in Pottawatomie County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 783 at the 2000 census. It became a place when the Glenpool railroad track was extended east from its original terminus at Tellico to Glenpool in 1907.
