Enid is a small town in the Oklahoma Panhandle. It's located on the banks of the Arkansas River, about 30 miles northwest of Tulsa. The population was 7,868 at the 2010 census. The settlement that would become Enid began as a trading post on the forks of the Arkansas and Canadian Rivers in 1887. By 1902, it had reached its current size, with a population of around 100. On November 8th, 1945, after more than three years of planning and preparations by both cities', Tulsa finally received its own airfield -Fort Riley Air Force Base - which helped spur economic development in both cities during the post-war period. Despite these accomplishments over time, progress appears to have stalled since then around issues such as budget deficits and infrastructure needs; both cities are experiencing low population growth rates today despite having similar economies).
