From the early days of Enid, Oklahoma’s national guard, there was a long and proud tradition of giving gifts to our city and its citizens. The Oklahoma National Guard was activated on December 15, 1907, in Enid. The unit was organized as a battalion of the 24th Infantry Regiment and assigned to the 1st Brigade, 2nd Division, 4th Army Corps. On October 14, 1911, the battalion was redesignated as the 3rd Battalion, Oklahoma National Guard and attached to the 1st Brigade, 4th Division. The brigade wasorganized and assignment active November 25-December 9, 1912 when it absorbed the 2d Battalion of the 24th Infantry Regiment. On July 3, 1916 (date unknown), detachment of battalion from brigade redesignated as Company C Tulsa National Guards. Company C Tulsa National Guards were unactivated on August 15 1932 due to federal troops withdrawal from state; however company continued operations until disbanded in 1936. On May 20 1933 detachments of both battalions reorganized as Companies A & B Tulsa National Guards with Headquarters at Enid and two companies located at Muskogee. Enid is a city in Oklahoma, United States. The population was 3,859 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Muskogee County and home to Enid State University. The name Enid first appeared on a map in 1894. The land that became Enid was long known as the "Horse watering ground" because it was where many Native American tribes gathered to drink from the running waters of the Little Missouri River. In 1854, representatives of the Kansas Territory petitioned for incorporation into the new state of Oklahoma; Enid was one of several towns recommended for incorporation. On November 14, 1874, a committee voted to incorporate as an independent city with its own government. The vote occurred two days after residents had successfully campaigned to have a railroad built through their town – which would connect Muskogee with Wichita, Kansas and other cities in what is now central Oklahoma. The first mayor and council were elected on December 2, 1874. By 1880, there were over 200 businesses and 1,000 people living in Enid proper;[5] by 1890, enrollment at Enid State Normal School had swollen to 3200 students.[6] Growth continued through World War I and into the post-war years as industries such as cattle raising boomed;[7] however,[8] economic stagnation set in during this period which contributed to population decline by 1925[9] However growth resumed during World War II with construction of dams along the Little Missouri River resulting in an increase in water availability which has led to increased housing development around downtownEnid since then
