In 1998-1999, they deployed as part of Operation Joint Endeavor and from 2000-2001 served as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Enid, Oklahoma is a small town located in northeast Oklahoma. The population was 2,868 at the 2010 census. The community is home to Enid Regional Airport and the Enid-Mauldin County Library System. The area that now makes up Enid was first settled by Native American people in the early 1800s. A post office called "Ender's Fork" was established in 1881, and became part of the city of McAlester in 1907. In 1907, the City of McAlester merged with the towns of Gunderson and Ross to form the new city of Enid. The land around present-day Enid was first surveyed in 1892 by George Washington Morrison, who named it after his hometown on Long Island, New York: Ender's Grove (now known as East Meadow). The town began to grow rapidly during World War I due to its location near military encampments and gunpowder production sites. After World War I ended, agricultural interests began to take center stage in town; this led to development of a large housing market during the 1920s and 1930s. During this time, Enid became an important transportation hub for eastern Oklahoma due to its location on US 73 and US 169 between Tulsa and McAlester. In 1970, construction began on what would become known as "the world’s largest shopping mall." The mall opened commercial operations on October 15th, 1971; it quickly became one of America’s most popular tourist destinations thanks to its variety of stores and wide range of prices offered relative to other malls across America. By 1998, however, health concerns had startedto impact enrollment at the mall; as a result, it closed Its doors for good that year amidst allegations that management had ignored safety concerns throughout its redevelopment process. Today only a single wing remains standing from when the original mall held over 1 million shoppers each month! Today there are few reminders that once enmeshed within downtown Enid were two sprawling shopping malls with anchor stores Eaton’s (later Macy’s) Herald Square Shopping Center (now Sears) on one side and JCPenney/Bettendorf Mall offshoot RadioShack across Main Street opposite anchored Kmart store which also used be anchored by Sears until late ‘70’ when Kmart moved outigeout into their own building next door (renamed Sam's Club later). Most residents these days either work or live outside their homes so very little has changed since then...except maybe for some demolition going on currently
