The Naval Security Service (NSS) is a branch of the United States Navy that provides law enforcement and security for naval installations and other U.S. Government facilities abroad. The NSS was founded on 8 December 1923 as the Naval Investigative Service, subordinated to the Office of Naval Intelligence. In 1945, the NSS became an independent service with its own headquarters in Washington D.C.. On 1 November 1961, it was redesignated as the Naval Security Service (NSS). The name change reflected the expanded role of NSS in terms of both maritime and national security activity throughout Earth's oceans and airspace. The mission of NSS has never been narrower than protecting America's coasts, waterways, seaside communities, naval bases and important commercial interests worldwide; however, our reach has also included areas such as counter-terrorism operations inside the United States homeland. Elk City is a small town in the U.S. state of Oklahoma and the county seat of Muskogee County. The population was 5,898 at the 2010 census. Elk City is located on the Arkansas River, about 20 miles (32 km) east of Tulsa and 70 miles (113 km) northeast of Fort Worth. The first residents in what is now Elk City were Choctaw Indians who hunted game in the area. A post office called Elk City was established in 1876, and remained open until 1907. In 1924, it became part of Tulsa and retains its original name to this day. In 1902, local farmers discovered oil shale near present-day Elk City; this discovery led tothe city's rise to prominence as an oil production center during World War I when Tulsa heavy industry shifted its output to support military efforts in Europe. After the war ended, oil production declined but ElkCity continued to grow as a ranching community due to its location along key transportation routes for cattle drives and other agricultural pursuits. The city's economy boomed during the 1950s through increased population growth associated with chrome mining operations adjacent to its downtown core; however, chrome production ceased following a major fire that destroyed much of downtown Elk City in 1957. Today, most major economic activity takes place outside of Elkhart County thanks to nearby OKC's diversified economy which includes health care services, technology parks/firms/retail stores/restaurants/petsitting businesses etc., truck manufacturing plants etc., natural gas development

Elk City is located in the northwest corner of Oklahoma, just south of the Arkansas state line. The city was founded in 1907 by John Fenton and his brother-in-law, James Fenton. In 1909, the city was named for its founder, John Fenton. The first post office in Elk City was established in 1907. The population of Elk City peaked at over 100,000 in 1910 but decreased to around 50,000 by 1920. However, the population continued to grow rapidly during World War II as a result of the plentiful military personnel stationed in nearby Fort Gibson and Tulsa. The city experienced significant growth following World War II however; it reached a peak population of over 150,000 in 1960. However, due to restrictive zoning ordinances enacted during this time period and a lack of jobs available within the city limits, Elmwood Village became an increasingly popular choice for residents seeking proximity to larger metropolitan areas such as Tulsa or Wichita Falls. As a result of these policies and other factors, Elmwood Village eventually became an ghost town after only brief stints of activity between 1997 and 2005. Today there are no active residents living within sight or reach of Elk City; however, there are still many reminders that this once vibrant community had a significant impact on its surrounding area - including several large parkland parcels that remain undeveloped today but were once part of Elmwood Village’s property boundaries. Additionally, numerous small businesses have been situated throughout downtown since the early days when most people accessed their goods from outside the city limits via wagon trains travelling through what is now known as “the loop” - which included parts of present day Elk City along with parts neighboring Ft Gibson and Tulsa (now Jenks). Elk City is one example among many across America that has undergone significant transformation over time – both physically and culturally – due to economic reasons alone or as part of wider trends related to globalization and increased access to resources overall!
Elk City was founded in 1881, when a group of settlers from Texas arrived and platted the town on the Elk Fork of the Arkansas River. The town developed as a trading post, and by 1907 had a population of 175 residents. On July 10, 1907, Elk City became part of Oklahoma Territory. In 1907, it also became the capital of the new state of Oklahoma. The population in 1934 totaled 1,858 people.
