The first coffee shop in Elk City was founded in 1907 by F.H. Savage and his brother-in-law, J.W. Sweeting. The business was located on Third Street between State and Broadway. In 1912, the Savage family sold the business to Denton Coffee Company who operated it until 1926 when it was bought by the Cimarron Coffee Company which operating it until 1958 when it became known as The Frontier Coffee Company In 1959, The Frontier Coffee Company merged with American National Tobacco to form American National Tobacco Corporation (ANTC). ANTC continued to operate The Frontier Coffee Company until 1979 when it closed its doors for good.

Elk City is a small city in the eastern part of Oklahoma. It was founded in 1907 by settlers from Illinois, and most of its residents are descendants of those who came. Elk City is located on the Arkansas River, about 30 miles northeast of Tulsa. The city has a population of around 45,000 people, and it is the center for education and cultural activities in the area. The history of Elk City begins with the arrival of settlers from Illinois in 1907. The first wave of gourmet coffee began to emerge in the late 1990s as a response to the popularity of craft beer, which began to grow in popularity. Gourmet coffeeounded during the 2000s as a result of increased interest in high-end products and cuisine. Gourmet coffee now dominates the market, with over 100 brands and products available across all types of stores. The origins of gourmet coffee can be traced back to early 18th century Europe where some cafes served “gouda and brie” sandwiches on artisanal bread from their own bakery ovens. This practice spread throughout Europe, eventually becoming popular enough for larger businesses to start serving gourmet coffees on site. In North America, gourmet Coffee began appearing at bars and restaurants during the late 1800s as a way to appeal to wealthier clientele who were willing to spend more money on fine food than they could buy at local grocery stores. By this time, many small roasters had developed their own unique blends and styles that helped maintain integrity within the industry. During the 1920s, large grocery chains started opening up throughout America, resulting in an increase in demand for high-quality specialty coffees from smaller roasters. At this point, many larger companies such as Starbucks decided not to produce their own gourmet coffee but instead delegate production duties to smaller regionalroasters. These regional roasters would then blend different beans from different regions together into unique blends that appealed specifically to specific customers. As these independent producers continued producing quality beans and creating distinctive flavors throughout the years, it became difficult for large conglomerates like Starbucks or Dunkin’ Donuts to replicate those same results without investing significant resources into their own Coffeeshops/Breweries; thus eliminating much competition once they did enterthe market for premium espresso drinks (see figure 1). As global trade grew increasingly competitive during the2000s recession, many small-time roasteries lost accessto funding and ceased operations altogether; however, some continue defy oddsandcontinueproducingpremiumcoffeepleaseingtoallcomers today (see figure 2). Elk City is a small town in northeast Oklahoma, United States. The population was 1,611 at the 2010 census. Elk City is part of the Muskogee County seat and is located on the forks of the Canadian River. The first people to live in what is now Elk City were Osage Indian traders who traveled down the Canadian River in canoes from their homelands in Illinois. In 1881, a post office was established at Elk Cityusing the name of Jacksboro, Texas. A year later, it changed its name to Muskogee because of Indian Claims Settlement Act (ICSA) controversy over land ownership between Native Americans and white settlers. The city was platted in 1907 by James Ladd as an agricultural settlement near his ranching operation east of present day Elkton. The original town had only two buildings: a store and a school which opened in 1908. By 1916, the population had grown to over 100 residents; however, when World War I started, he ceased farming operations and both schools closed due to lack of funding. After prohibition ended in 1919, many farmers returned to agriculture but also developed businesses such as meatpacking plants and stores along with new housing developments including several blocks of low-income housing built during the late1920s through early 1930s as part of an effort by then-Mayor Jock Hensley to create single-family homes for all citizens within city limits instead of allowing them to be scattered around town like they were on nearby farms or ranches. During Prohibition years (1920–1927), many workers fromMuskogee came into town for work at local breweries and other alcohol production facilities; this led to increased trade and commerce between Elk City and Muskogee during that time period which helped support Elmira until that community went out of business during prohibition's collapse nationally in 1933. In 1951, Mayor Jock Hensley initiated plans for redevelopment called "The Renaissance". This plan called for creation of mixed-use areas including retail outlets along with residences within blocks bounded by 1st Street SE., 2nd Street SE., 3rd Street SE., 4th Street SE., 5th Street SSW., 6th Street NE., 7thStreet NW., 8thStreet SW.; these redevelopments became known collectively as "Eagle Square" after President Harry S Truman's development initiative which aimed To promote downtown redevelopment throughout America.
