In 1922, the construction of the present day Municipal Center began which now houses many local businesses and government buildings including the El Reno Police Department and Fire Department along with a number of other municipal services. In the early 2000s, plans were submitted to annex part of Latimer County into El Reno; however, this proposal was met with strong opposition from local residents who claim that annexation would lead to increased taxes and traffic congestion within their community.
