El Reno is a small town in the far west of Oklahoma. It was founded in 1907 by settlers from Missouri who wanted to found a new community after being driven out of their home state. The original El Reno post office was established in 1909, and it remained in operation until it closed its doors in 1991. By 1885, however, Wichita County had been divided into two sections – one which included present-day Tulsa and parts of modern-day Oklahoma City; and another which included present-dayEl Reno and Jenks. In 1907, two men named John Hodge and Wm Purdy decided to move from Kansas City, Missouri to start a new life in what would become known as El Reno Township. They set up shop near an existing lumber mill they had purchased from the local company. According to legend, some time between 1908 and 1911 someone built a small cabin near today’s intersection OF I-44 AND US-61 (the current route for US 61). This structure served as both headquarters for the newly formed township board and as a place for members to congregate before or after official business meetings or hearings before county commissioners etc.. In 1922, an additional store was opened up on US 61 just eastofpresent day OKC Boulevard; this store later became known as Walmart Supercenter! In 1951 donations started coming in from all over America towards building a schoolhouse/library within sight & sound elreno high school! Unfortunately due practical difficulties (i e lackOf Funds) & unfriendliness Of Board members we never got very far with our project! But many memories have been made around here over those years!
