In 1957, Donny Burt started the first gourmet coffee shop in El Reno which served Breakfast and Lunch until 1992 when it closed again due to lack of business opportunity. In 1996, Ronald Sauer opened the first gourmet coffee shop in Tulsa that serves Breakfast and Lunch until present day. Gourmet Coffee House Tulsa continues to serve as one of the most popular tourist destinations for locals and visitors alike due to its unique atmosphere and great food selection. There are also several small cafes throughout El Reno that sell gourmet coffee along with pastries and other snacks from their menu. Customer Service!!! Gastroonomics aside though I think it’s fair to say without John R Lynch nothing really happened... And if you ask any diehard fan about why don’t see much mention about him lately (or even Doughnuts) – They will tell you very simply “John didn’t have anything good coming [after his death]". The town's name comes from the Spanish word for "river." The first store in El Reno opened its doors on October 15, 1907. The first post office opened in 1909. By 1912, the population of El Reno had grown to over 100 people. In 1916, a dam was built across the Little River near El Reno to supply water for men and machines working on a new irrigation system proposed by Governor James Muhlenberg of Texas. This project created many jobs for locals and also financed other local businesses. In 1922, when OK Statehood was granted to Oklahoma Territory under President Warren G Harding, El Reno became part of the new state. At this time it had a population of around 1,000 people; however it quickly grew to 3,000+. During World War II, El Reno played an important role as an airbase and port for military aircraft operating in Southern Oklahoma. In 1945-46, during the Korean War (also known as the Cold War), El Reno saw heavy fighting between U S Forces and North Korean forces which resulted in several killed and injured residents including one resident who died after being hit by friendly fire from American troops while they were guarding their homes from artillery shelling
