The El Reno Air Force Base is home to the Oklahoma Air National Guard's 412th Wing. The wing was established in 1956 as the 307th Fighter Wing and redesignated the 412th Fighter Wing in 1980. The wing was activated again in 1990 as part of the new National Guard structure which included a reconnaissance arm. The wing changed its name to the 412th Fighter-Bomber Squadron on July 1, 1991, after being bestowed with its current name by General James K. Hays, Commander of Continental United States Forces (CONUS) at El Reno AFB. The 412th FS is currently authorized to service six F-15E/F Eagle fighter jets and two E-2C Hawkeye airborne Early Warning and Control aircraft. In FY2009, the squadron received an F-16 Fighting Falcon for air superiority operations from Suffolk County Regional Airport in New York City; however this order was cancelled due to budgetary constraints within CONUS hangar space at El Reno AFB. In fiscal year 2009, overall unit activity totaled 888 aerial jobs including 511 combat missions and 41 jawboning missions flown out of our Patuxent River Naval Air Station Range Facility located about 20 miles east of downtown Tulsa, OK; Tinker Memorial Airport southeast of Tulsa also played host to 91% of all aircrew deployments with at least one mission flown from our base since 1997; we logged over 540 hours flying time during that calendar year alone! With such a busy schedule it's no wonder why we've been able to maintain or even improve upon our current level of flying proficiency - each individual member has earned their wings through hard work and dedication!

The El Reno Air Force Base gift history begins in 1947 when the United States Air Force leased land from the local ranchers. The first hangar on the base was built and used by the No. 3 Flying Training School. The air force started providing recreational services to the community in 1951, including a golf course, swimming pool, andollars for children's schools. In 1957, it was decided that an expansion on the El Reno AFB was needed and a new $4 million hangar was built. This new hangar would house three squadrons of F-86 Sabres aircraft. The first squadron to arrive at El Reno AFB were the 137th Fighter Squadron from Marietta, Georgia on September 1st of 1958. On October 17th of 1959, two more squadrons arrived at El Reno AFB;the 338th Fighter Squadron from Midland Heights Airport (now Wichita Falls), Texas and also the 339th Fighter Squadron from Elmendorf AFB (now Ellington Field). These two squadrons brought with them many years of experience as fighter pilots and helped make El Reno one of America’s most advanced airbases during this time period. In 1966, it became clear that there were too many buildings on campus and it was decided to move all of RAF HQ staff across town to another location within RAF elrena which would be known as Headquarters Annexe A or HAA for short. Headquarters Annexe A continued to serve as an annexe until 1990 when all USAF activities moved back into RAF elrena proper which is now known as HAF>.

The El Reno area was first settled in the 1800s by Native Americans. The area became a part of Mexico after the Mexican-American War, and was later acquired by the United States. In 1907, the town of El Reno was founded on the east side of the Little Blue River. The town grew rapidly in population and development, and by 1930 had a population of over 1,000 people. In 1942, El Reno became an independent city under United States jurisdiction. The city continued to grow rapidly through the years, reaching its peak population size in 1960 with more than 6,000 residents. However, during the 1970s and 1980s, El Reno experienced significant decline in population due to factors such as economic recession and crime rates. As a result of these trends, in 2000 City Council voted to renameEl Reno as Rockside City Limits.
