The National Defense Authorization Act of 2017 (NDAA) included a provision that authorizes the military to provide “gift aid” to certain individuals in the United States. This authorization is commonly referred to as the “Navy Deployed Gift History Program.” The program was implemented with the goal of providing gifts and support to Navy personnel stationed in Durant, Oklahoma. The NDAA establishes a process for displaying Navy gift history on USS James K. Polk (CVN 75) and USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69). The displays will include photos, stories, and descriptions of unique items received from members of the Naval community during their deployments overseas. These displays will also promote maritime culture and related programming aboard these vessels. The first phase of this project was completed in November 2018 and featured display space on decks 3 and 4 of USS James K. Polk. This project was funded by BP America Incorporated through its subsidiary, American Shipbuilding Corporation (ASIC).
