Durant, Oklahoma is home to the United States Air Force's 1st Tactical Fighter Wing. This wing was activated on October 2, 1947 and is headquartered at Hulen Air Force Base. The 1st TFW also has its main occupied installation, Tinker Air Force Base in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The USAAF began fielding the F-104G Starfighter jet fighter in 1957. The USAF began deploying the F-15 Eagle in 1969 and the F-16 Fighting Falcon in 1992. In 2006, the USAF deployed its first KC-135R Stratotanker aerial refueling tanker to support Operation Iraqi Freedom. In 2009, the USAF deployd its first Boeing 737NG aircraft as an air cargo transport from Tinker AFB to Incirlik AB on Turkey's southern coast for Operation Odyssey Dawn operation against ISIL militants operating in Iraq and Syria. CVL 21 was one of two CVA's that were converted into CVEs after being damaged as a result of Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor that day. The United States Air Force deployed a gift history in Durant, Oklahoma on Dec. 13, 1948. The gift history was organized by the Mrs. H.L. Mencken Foundation and consisted of items donated by military members and civilians from across the country to help improve conditions in Korea during the Korean War.
Durant, Oklahoma is a small town in the US state of Oklahoma. It is located in northeastern Oklahoma County, about 20 miles (32 km) northeast of Tulsa and about 25 miles (40 km) southwest of the larger city of Norman. The population was 2,847 at the 2010 census. The small town has a history dating back to 1881 when it was platted as part of Haskell County by J.W. Durant, an early settler who came from Kentucky. Durant also founded Haskell University in 1907 and built the first cotton gin in the area in 1898. Durant is named after J.W. Durant's father-in-law, George Hennigan: "George" meaning "father" and "Hennigan"meaning "place where I began my life". Durant is home to several important historical sites including: The Old Haskell Store House which was built in 1881 and served as local courthouse until 1954; TheOld Post Office which was constructed in 1907 on land donated by J.W. Durant; The First Methodist Episcopal Church which was built circa 1892 and remains one of the oldest churches still standing in McAlester; And Agrarian Trust Farmstead which dates back to 1916 and contains more than 20 buildings that were used for farming operations such as barns, outhouses, chicken houses, corn cribs and other farm chores during prohibition era
The United States Air Force deployed an air force gift in 1957. The gift was a C-130 cargo plane. The plane was donated by the aircraft manufacturer, Lockheed Martin, to the USAF. It served as a military transport for troops and supplies during the Korean War. In 1969, it was retired from service and used as a training plane for new air force officers. In 1994, it was gifted to the Florida Air National Guard as part of its commitment to serve in support of global security interests. Today, it is used as a tourist attraction near Homestead AFB in Homestead, FL.

Durant was founded in 1907 by James M. Durant, a banker and rancher. The town grew rapidly, and in 1911 it became the county seat of district No. 5. In 1924, the Oklahoma Legislature designated Durant as the state capital. The city began to grow rapidly again from its downtown core, and development outside of the central business district continued until the late 1970s when developers replaced traditional downtown businesses with high-rise buildings that dot the landscape today.1 The first inhabitants of what is now Durant were Arapaho Indians who lived near Fort Sill before moving south to live in what is now Wichita County.2 The area that is now Durant was part of the Osage Nation until 1836 when they ceded it to Mexico forts at Choctawhita and Comanche Pueblos on account of their lack of title to land within Indian Territory3 They also sold land east of present-day Haskell City for cattle drives4 By 1851, there were over 1,000 settlers living in or around present-day Durant5 After years of drift across Indian territory due to epidemics (most notably smallpox)6 white traders arrived in early 18597 When Alexander Henderson opened his trading post onthe Arkansas River northeast of present day Tulsa8 he soon banded together other traders and formed a company known as the Compounders9 In 1861, Henderson linked up with several other traders9 including Elisha Whitcomb10 who had come from New York11 In 1862, General John Calhoun ordered General George Armstrong Smith to march against Confederate forces under Robert Ewell12 Smith's army destroyed most ofEwell's force at Battle Creek Bridge13 On December 12th1862, US Army Captain John Custer discovered a Union cavalry detachment led by Lieutenant Colonel Thomas Jett14 At what is now Mount Pleasant Cemetery15 Custer ordered his men gallop towards them recklessly16 Jett's unit ran into an ambush organized by Captain Stephen Aiken17 It resulted in one Ulysses S Grant19 officer dead20 three officers wounded21 two enlisted men killed22 four privates hanged23 There are no remains located at Mount Pleasant Cemetery24 but information suggests that another battlefield exists nearby25
Durant was born on December 16, 1984 in Oklahoman City. Durant attended high school at the University of Oklahoma where he played for the Sooners from 2003 to 2007. He led the Sooners to their first ever NCAA Tournament berth during his four-year tenure as head coach, and was also named an All-American in 2006 and 2007. In OKC’s 108-106 victory over Memphis in the 2008 NBA Finals, Durant made history by becoming the first player in league history to score 50 points in a Finals game (43 points versus 38 points), and became only the third player in NBA history to lead his team to three straight championships (the others being Wilt Chamberlain and Michael Jordan). Durant is currently playing with the Golden State Warriors of the National Basketball Association (NBA).
The Oklahoma Air National Guard's (OANA) 6th Airlift Squadron is deploying a donated gift - an air ambulance - to Durant, Okla. The squadron will use the ambulance to help with local emergencies and provide medical care to locals.
