The coffee company was founded by two brothers named John and Frank Black. In 1927, the Black Jack's Coffee Company moved to its current location in Duncan. The Black Jack's Coffee Company is one of the oldest continuously operating coffee companies in America. The first shop on East Main Street in Duncan opened its doors on December 12, 1921. It was run by John Black and his brother, Frank. At that time, African American men were not allowed to own businesses in Duncan so theBlack Jack's Coffee Company was founded as an opportunity for African American men to get their own business venture going. John Black continued running the business until he passed away in 1951. His brother, Frank took over management of the business until his death in 1984. AfterFrank Blacks death, his son Jay became manager of the business and operated it until 1992 when it was sold to David Jobeo who ran it until 2003 when it reverted back to ownership by John Black family descendants including Jay Jobeo Sr.. Duncan, Oklahoma is a town located in eastern Oklahoma. Duncan was officially founded on May 3, 1907 and became a city in 1938. The population of Duncan was 5,811 at the 2010 census. Duncan is home to the Duncan Symphony Orchestra and the University of Central Oklahoma. In addition to its Oklahoman roots, Duncan also has German, Irish, Cherokee and other ancestry. The first residents of what is now Duncan were farmers who came overland from Texas in 1881. The town name may come from John Duncombe's Creek which empties into the Arkansas River near present-day Durant. A post office called Duncombe was established in 1907 and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1920. The first businesses established in Duncan were a grocery store and a hardware store. The hardware store closed around 1918 but the grocery continued to operate until it merged with another businesschain two years later. During World War I, Duncan served as an airfield for the American military during World War I hostilities that took place across eastern Oklahoma including neighboring Turkey Lake and Choctaw Nation territory between 1916-1917 . In 1938, whenOklahoma became a state,Duncan become one of its cities by ordinance passed by then-Governor David Goode . At that time there were only six towns in eastern Oklahoma . The city had a population of 714 as of 2010 . After several years of growth due to annexation by other municipalities ,the population reached 1,041 by 1960 Duncan’s ambitious plans for expansion included creating new neighborhoods such as Kipling Park east of downtown; Pioneer Square westward along US Highway 36; Northside 400 acres annexed from Uniontown ; Tulsa Avenue connecting downtown with Northside; an airport annexation leading to Tulsa Airport just north Of Interstate 40; new shopping malls (including Mills Mall) on both sides of I-40 eastbound & westbound; &a water park adjacent To Interstate 40 south Of US Highway 36
Duncan, Oklahoma was founded by Duncan and his wife Lillie in 1907. The town was named after Duncan's father, who had died in a wagon accident. The couple built the first log cabin in the area and started a small farm. In 1911, they moved to their present location and started a grocery store. The town grew rapidly and by 1915, it had four churches, six businesses, and forty-eight residents. Duncan became an important center for trade within the region and its population increased from 100 to 1,500 over the next few years. In 1923, the town voted to become an independent city andrewsville merged with Duncan into one municipality.
