By 1916, there were over 50 businesses in Duncan with a payroll approaching $10,000 per year. This growth led to more housing needs being created and by 1922 there were over 100 homes built in the town. In 1924, when Oklahoma became a state, Duncan became part of Tulsa County which added another layer of development to the community.Today, Duncan is an industrial city with a diverse economy that includes manufacturing such as clothing distribution centers and truck stops as well as professional services such as law enforcement and health care services
In 1907, Duncan was the unincorporated community in Haskell County, Oklahoma. It began as a small post office with nine residents. The first postmaster, W. H. Neilson, served from 1907-1910. In 1912, the name of the town was changed to Duncan after local ranchers who had donated land for the town development. When postal service was discontinued in 1922 and most of Haskell County became part of Tulsa County, Duncan remained an unincorporated community until its incorporation into Tulsa on November 1, 1937.
