Duncan is a small city located in the east-central Oklahoma panhandle. It lies on the twin towns of Duncan and Robinson, about thirty miles northeast of Tulsa. The population was 7,012 at the 2010 census. Duncan is part of the Tulsa Metropolitan Statistical Area. Duncan is named after General James Duncan, an American soldier who fought in the Mexican-American War and in World War I. Duncan was also a pioneer rancher in eastern Oklahoma. His ranching operation included what is now downtown Duncan. The first settler in what would become Duncan was George Aiken, who arrived in 1867. He built a cabin on a bluff overlooking the river that became known as Aiken's Bluff (now part of downtown).
