The Duncan Coast Guard Station was established in 1917. The station has been providing coastal security and related services to the community since then. In 2007, the station celebrated its centennial year with a variety of celebrations and events. These included an exhibit on the history of the Coast Guard Station, tours of the station, and a gift show. In 1907, Duncan became one of four towns in Oklahoma Territory that were chosen to be part of the newly created Duncan Coast Guard Station. The town's location onOklahoma's Gulf coast made it an important stop for sailors patrolling the waters around the state. The first Coast Guard officer stationed at Duncan was Captain George Armstrong who served until 1912. The following year, Captain Willis Murchison assumed command of the station after Armstrong's departure. Moorison would serve until 1915 when he was replaced by First Lieutenant Charles Willsbury who would stay for four years before being replaced by Second Lieutenant Elmira Tatum in 1916. During World War I, 3rd Lieutenant Everett Hutton served as Commandant at Duncan while also serving as Physical Director at Fort Sill; this position is now known as Commandant Operations Directorate (COD). After World War I ended, Third Lieutenant Frank Jurgensen took over as Commandant at Duncan from Everett Hutton and stayed until 1931 when he was succeeded by Second Lieutenant John Dickson Jr.; during his tenure, no civilians were allowed on board ship for security purposes which limited shore patrols to military personnel only Third Lt Dickson left for good in 1933 after becoming Assistant Chief Engineer (CE) with jurisdiction over all aspects of maritime safety within territorial waters off Texas; this position is now known as Assistant Chief Operating Officer (ACO). During his tenure there were several changes at Duncan which include installation of radar equipment which helped increase safety patrols along with expanding cruiser capabilities Second Lieutenants Burt O'Malley and Floyd Ewing took over command from Dickson in 1935 and 1936 respectively; both officers spent two years leading patrols before leaving for other commands Captain Harry Aiken arrived in 1937 to take command of the station followed by First Lieutenants Charles Willoughby and Julius Keeshan who both led patrols from 1938-1940 before leaving again First Lt Clyde Ladd took command from O’Malley in 1940 and served until 1943 when he became Commander Naval District Gulfport-St James Bay Canada where he remained until 1945 when he returned to duty as Commander Coastal Security Forces Northwest Pacific Area aboard USS Constitution (CVN-72) . He later served as Deputy Commander Naval District Southwest Alaska Commands from 1969-1974 After World War II ended, law enforcement responsibilities moved ashore to Tulsa where they remain today under Sheriff David Clarke

Duncan is a city in Muskogee County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 census. Duncan is the county seat of Muskogee County. It is part of the Tulsa metropolitan area. The city was founded by pioneers in 1881 as Duncan on the edge of what would become Muskogee County. The name comes from Scottish explorer and fur trader Capt. John Forbes Duncan who discovered and named this area Duncan Land after his home country of Scotland. In 1907, Duncan became a city when it was annexed by Tulsa. In 1911, construction began on what would be called "the world's first oil well" in town square off of Main Street near today's American Legion Post #541/442 (now known as Walmart). The well received its nickname because natural gas riches were discovered nearby followed by gasoline production beginning in 1913 making it one of the earliest sources for both fuels in the United States and one of America's leading businesses until it merged with Texaco in 1966 to form ChevronTexaco Incorporated (later ChevronMobil). In 1916, work started on what would become Kawasaki Plant No 1 to produce aviation gasoline for World War I then Kennet Oil Refineries east of town later that year becoming an important producer until deregulation allowed competition from foreign producers starting in 1978 which led to plant closures during the 1990s Great Recession coinciding with a statewide economic downturn that deeply impacted Muskogee County overall due to job loss and tax increases championed by former City Manager Donny Youngblood while also reducing services offered within city limits contributing significantly to crime rates increasing substantially over time even as population growth has only marginally increased those rates despite major investment including re-naming streets adjacent to downtown following a 2006 survey showing high levels of unemployment within city limits) resulting finally in closure prior to restoration beginning mid-2013 having saved dozens if not hundreds jobs along with $50 million dollars for deferred maintenance funds now available for redevelopment or reuse rather than being mothballed or abandoned essentially unchanged since closed especially given current market conditions surrounding shrinking petroleum prices combined with enactment last year of Oklahoma state budget surplus authorization providing resources necessary for revitalization underway) which includes plans for new retail/service development including an avenue connecting downtown directly across from American Legion Post #541/442 (now Walmart) containing A&E movie theater; community center; library; parklands; restaurant complex comprising several large restaurants including Olive Garden & Steakhouse located just east side street between Third Avenue and Main Street approximately midway between downtown and civic center while also creating thousands if not hundreds additional jobs through various other initiatives targeted at improving quality life withinMuskogeeCounty clustered around central business district

The Coast Guard gift history goes back to 1924 when a small boat, the USCG Cutter Bayonet, was donated by Captain John A. Macdonald of the United States Coast Guard. The cutter became the first coastal guard vessel to be equipped with an air-conditioning system and a radar system in 1978. In 1996, the cutter was renamed CG Point Hope and recommissioned as that vessel’s first command ship. In 2006, she was transferred from Coast Guard custody to NOAA for Administration and Operational Services.
Duncan, Oklahoma was founded in 1907 by Alexander D. Duncan and his wife Maud. The town became a center for cattle and grain production, and it attracted people from around the country to its business opportunities. In the 1920s, Duncan developed into a major oil town, with wells dotting the landscape. The economy changed during World War II, when oil production plummeted due to the war effort. However, after the war ended, Duncan resumed growth as a bedroom community for Tulsa. In the 1990s, new businesses began moving into Duncan, creating jobs and boosting the local economy.Today, Duncan is known for its shopping malls and its annual Oktoberfest celebration
On July 4, 1907, the Duncan Indian School was founded in Duncan by schoolmistress Mrs. J.C. Rankin and teacher Mrs. Hadden. The school operated until it closed its doors in 1918 due to financial difficulties. In 1922, Duncan's only grocery store opened and served the town's needs for groceries and other supplies until closing in 1969 when Duncan's only post office also closed. In 1984, a new elementary school was built on the site of the old Duncan Indian School and is now known asDuncan Elementary School
