The Air Force Deployed Gift History Museum is a unique and fascinating museum that tells the story of air force deployments in Del City, Oklahoma. This city was once a major center for munitions production, and today it is home to the largest air force base in the country. Del City is a city in Oklahoma, United States. The population was 23,821 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Muskogee County. The name "Del City" was given to it by General Pershing when he landed his forces at the mouth of the Olancha River in late 1918 while on an expedition against Apache Indians. The community was founded by pioneers in 1887 and named for Delaware, Ohio, where four of the original eight settlers died during travel from eastern Kansas to take up arms against American Indian warriors led by Chief Red Cloud. The first post office was established in Del City on July 10, 1887. By 1890, trade had developed around cattle drives and general merchandizing between farmers and ranchers near present-day Wichita Falls and Ponca City. A railroad depot was built in Del City in 1899; steamboats were used to transport goods inland until the early 20th century when a new road linked Wichita Falls with Tulsa via Ponca City and Durant. In 1907, a branch line of the Union Pacific Railroad (now known as the Arkansas River Railway) reached Del City from Wichita Falls; this helped bring commerce into town after years of being transported by stagecoach or wagon train overland from central Oklahoma. A cotton gin operated here until 1915; later that year saw construction of a water tower which still stands today as part of downtown business district infrastructure. In 1916–17, local Boy Scouts set up camp on government land east of town for instruction before their annual camping trip across country; they called it Camp Crystal Lake due to its clear turquoise waters within easy reach from downtown buildings adjacent to Interstate 40/Upper Creek Road (later I-40E). One important event during these early years took place on October 1st 1917: World War I veteran General John J. Pershing arrived in DelCity from Fort Worth Texas with troops seeking refuge following critical defeats at Moguls Pass and Valley Forge Bridge southeast of Wichita Falls under Comanche chief Blackwater Dick’s command; he organized what became known as OKLAHOMA National Guard Troops stationed permanently within Muskogee County beginning on October 17th 1917 throughout much of 1918 as hostilities continued between America’s warring tribes throughout Central Oklahoma Territory portions then under Comanche control including parts now included within Tulsa metropolitan area (Oklahoma Territory formed January 3rd 1907 following territorial incorporations resulting out Junction Agreement between Ulysses S Grant & Quanah Parker). One result resultant from this deployment were two major businesses located within walking distance – Dewey Lumber Company erected a millrace bridge across Lower Creek providing direct access high water plain just south side creek bank edging US 40 just west side McClain County line extending north 2 miles thence down current US Highway 169 South Alternate route taking first left onto present day US Highway 169 East Alternate route

Like many other frontier towns, Del City was built on farmland that was first developed for livestock production and later became an agricultural center with cotton plantations and other crops. The town began to grow rapidly because it had access to good transportation facilities - both by railroad and by stagecoach - which allowed it to become one of the largest centres west of Oklahoma Territory. In 1916, when Del City became a city Limits town, it faced competition from nearby Tulsa for influence within the larger city. However, this competition ultimately proved unsuccessful because Tulsa lacked resources such as tax revenues or infrastructure that could support much larger communities like DelCity. Despite this lack of success, Tulsa soon realized thatDelCity would be an important centre for trade within its own boundaries and decided to invest in its growth. By 1924,DelCity had reached its peak population numbering over 100,000 people but quickly fell below this level due to various factors such as increased suburban development around town which competed against local agricultural production; low demand for goods produced by rural residents who no longer needed access to good transportation;and finally competition from other cities in Oklahoma which enjoyed more resources (such as tax revenues) than either Tulsa or DelCity
