The Choctaw Nation was a Native American people who inhabited the area now known as Oklahoma and parts of Arkansas, Texas, and New Mexico. The tribe had their own military forces for centuries before the United States acquired it in 1846. The first U.S. military deployment of Choctaw troops took place on October 15, 1861 when Confederate General John Custer attacked Fort Gibson, Oklahoma Territory under the command of Brigadier General William P. Benton. In 1865, after the Civil War ended, Choctaw forces fought in various campaigns against Apache and Kiowa Indians in what is known as the Indian Wars of America. On November 5, 1890, President Benjamin Harrison signed a bill authorizing the creation of an all-Native army to protect Native Americans living within Indian Territory. This new force was called the Choctaw National Guard and was designated to consist of 1,000 men from both tribal nations and white settlers who would be enlisted into service for two years at a time with no possibility of becoming discharged or retrained without approval from their respective governments. During its first year of operation (1891), only 20 men were drafted fromChoctaw reserves and 10 from white settlements; however, this number quickly grew to over 500 men by 1892 due to enlistments from East Oklahoman farmers living near reservation borders as well as fraudulent applications submitted by local settlers looking to get free labor for their farms during hard times. In 1896–97 there was an outbreak of cholera pandemic that caused great losses among Indigenous communities across North America due to lack of sanitation facilities and inadequate health care infrastructure; however, these same forces also played a significant role in halting Apache attacks against northwestern Indian Territory until 1901 when they finally ceased altogether following pressure from Congress. By 1907 there were over 2,500 soldiers garrisoned on reservations throughout Indian Territory with an additional 1 million Native Americans living off them consisting predominantlyof Plains Indians who had long been subsisting off hunting grounds within present-day Kansas and Colorado counties but were now thrust into direct competition with mounted cavalry units wielding modern firearms which they could not easily defeat through field tactics alone let alone outnumbering them numerically; Nevertheless these footholds served as key crossroads for trade between tribesmen on one side (the Plains)and Mexican traders on the other (the Rio Grande). By 1912 more than 100 miles worth of wagon trails connected individual reservations within present-day Oklahoma City with those outside it making transportation possible for goods necessary for subsistence such as flour or cattle along With technological advances including radios & automobiles starting arriving on reservation shores beginning around World War Is end in 1918 these forces began slowly withdrawing back inside their reservations while technology continued advancing leading up to Operation Desert Storm in 1991 which ultimately led to their ultimate extinction via assimilation by mainstream society

Choctaw is a Native American town in the US state of Oklahoma. The Choctaw Nation, which includes the town, was founded in 1819 by Chief Osage. The town's name comes from an Ojibwe word meaning "place where the water meets the earth." Choctaw is located on Choctaw County Road 5 and lies east of Interstate 35E. As of the 2010 census, Choctaw had a population of 1,562. The first European to encounter the Choctaws was French explorer La Salle in 1679. In 1794, General Andrew Jackson led an army through Oklahoma Territory and into what is now Texas during his campaign for independence from Great Britain. When he reached Indian Territory (now Oklahoma), he discovered that much of it was empty because most Indians had already migrated west to find new homes. He named this area Indian Territory after his favorite tribe, the Cherokee nation. In 1819, Chief Osage issued a proclamation calling for Coronation Day (July 4) as a day to celebrate all things Ojibwe including hunting and fishing expeditions along Buffalo Bayou near present-day Tulsa. On July 3, 1820, about 2,500 people from around Oklahoma gathered at Independence Hill in downtown Tulsa to witnessCoronation Day ceremonies conducted by Captain John Cook with assistance from William Clark commander of Fort Scott (). Many members of the original Creek Nation also came to see what would become their future home northwest of Tulsa; they later moved westward into Arkansas and Texas).
