Broken Arrow, Oklahoma is a city located in the eastern portion of the U.S. state of Oklahoma. The population was 54,873 at the 2010 census, making it the third-largest municipality in Tulsa County and one of its largest cities. It is also home to Tinker Air Force Base and to numerous military installations including Camp Victory, which houses coalition forces engaged in operations in Afghanistan and Iraq. The city's history dates back to 1881 when General Edmund Kirby established an American outpost on what is now Youngstown Avenue near present day Tinker Air Force Base. In 1907, Broken Arrow became part of Tulsa County and was incorporated as a city on December 2, 1907. On February 4, 1912, Tulsa County merged with Muskogee County and Broken Arrow became one of its two cities.
