The first post office was established in 1911 and it continued to be called Fort Worth until 1914 when it was renamed Broken Arrow because of the broken arrow handle seen on most farmhouses in central Oklahoma during this time period. In 1917, the first school opened in Broken Arrow and remained open until 1951 when it merged with nearby Haskell City School District to form the present-day Broken Arrow School District. In 1954, a new high school building was built for Broken Arrow High School which remains home to the district today.
