The national guard in Bixby, Oklahoma was formed on July 15, 1907 as the result of a merger of three local militias. The first National Guard unit in Bixby was organized as the Third Regiment of Oklahoma Volunteer Infantry and served during World War I. In 1924, the state created the Second Regiment of Oklahoma Volunteer Infantry to serve within the National Guard. The regiment continued to exist until it was disbanded on January 1, 1972 due to budget cuts. After World War II, there were efforts to create a national guard system throughout the United States. On October 20, 1947, President Harry S Truman signed into law Public Law 95-513 which established a National Guard Bureau at Fort Snelling in Minneapolis Minnesota and authorized the creation of five Reserve Brigades with an initial strength of 2500 soldiers each. These brigades would be responsible for training and manning military units located within their states for “the purpose of providing emergency protection against terrorism or insurrection”. On December 3, 1948 President Harry S Truman issued Executive Order 9394 which called for all states with National Guardsmen under their jurisdiction to form companies and become full member organizations within one year without Federal financial assistance. On February 11, 1949 Governor Fenton Crouch announced that Tulsa had become operational with its ownivory colored brigade known as The Black Shirts while Muskogee became operational with its own light infantry battalion known as The Golden Knights (later changed to Air Defense Command). The order also called for all National Guardsman serving outside their state boundaries to be reorganized into companies and designated “Regimental Combat Arms Teams” (later renamed Special Forces) when they reached 1000 enlisted members strong. However these plans never came about due to budgetary restrictions put forth by Congress in 1949 forbid any more than 12 Regimental Combat Arms Teams per Divisional Commander at any time. These limitations would eventually lead to disbandments andpcalls for stateNational Guardsmen from being used in combat operations abroad instead becoming support roles such as garrison duty or civil defense duties such as fire control or security services during times of crisis like hurricanes or earthquakes. In 1969 Governor Goodyear established an agency known as the Office of Military Assistance which would provide administrative resources and technical assistance pertaining specifically to military programs conducted by state governments through cooperation agreements entered into by both agencies

Bixby, Oklahoma is a small town located in the eastern part of the U.S. state of Oklahoma. The population was 2,751 at the 2010 census and 2,813 as of 2015. It is the county seat for Muskogee County. The name "Bixby" comes from an early settler named William Bixby and his wife Cynthia who were farmers in what is now Muskogee County. In 1875, they moved to what is now Tulsa and renamed their farm "Bixby Ranch". By 1907, they had built a post office at their ranch and in 1912 changed their name to Bixby to honor William's brother-in-law J.D. Bigham (the father of future Mayor James Denny). The town began as a farming community with some industry until World War II when it became an important port for military supplies coming into the country through the Arkansas River delta region. After Pearl Harbor, Japan bombed Pearl Harbor on December 7th 1941, most businesses closed but many residents took refuge in the town’s bunkers which still stand today due to lack of affordable housing during that time period combined withOklahoma’s harsh winters. The economy slowly recovered after 1945 and by 1970 there were over 100 businesses operating in downtown Bixby with more than $60 million worth of goods exported through that city each year alone! Today, downtown remains a vibrant cultural leader thanks to its diverse art galleries, restaurants and nightlife options as well as its significant contribution to local economic development!
