Bixby is a small town in Haskell County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 1,789 at the 2010 census. It lies along the Arkansas River and is east of Tulsa. The first settler in Bixby was George Fenton in 1881. The post office was established here in 1886. In 1907, a Methodist church was built and dedicated by President Theodore Roosevelt. A school was organized here in 1909 and named for Rev. Jno Meeks Griggs who served as superintendent from 1912 to 1916. In 1911, the community changed its name to Bixby after Hernando Bixby, an American general during World War I who later became an oilman and Senator from Florida
