The Bixby Coast Guard Station was established in 1917. The station is located on the town's waterfront, just South of US- Highway 59 and about three miles from the Oklahoma Sea Grant University campus. The station provides coastal guard services for the citizens of Bixby, as well as visitor services. In 1967, a new structure was built on the town's waterfront which became known as the "Station House." In 1984, a new annex was built to provide more space for the station. In 1991, a storage building was added to store equipment and supplies. A fire destroyed part of the annex in 1996 but no damage occurred to either building. In 2001, new equipment was purchased and installed at the station including an 8-foot deep water well with lifejackets for firefighters and a decoy buoy system for boaters. In 2006, air conditioning was added to provide warmth during winter months. In 2012, $1 million was invested into renovations which included upgraded infrastructure including a dedicated public restroom and outdoor shower area as well as improved seismic protection systems throughout the station buildings. In 2016, Coastal Guard Station personnel conducted their first response drill following Hurricane Harvey; it went very smoothly without any issues!

Bixby, Oklahoma is a small town in the U.S. state of Oklahoma, located on the Arkansas River. The population was 1,827 at the 2010 census. It lies near Tulsa and is home to the Bixby Air Force Base and the University of Central Oklahoma. The first Europeans to visit Bixby were French colonial traders in 1698 who named it "Bixborough". The name may be derived from an Ojibwe word meaning "place where I saw a bird." In 1819, Butch Comstock founded what became known as Consolidated Land Company, a land speculation business which developed into one of American history's largest ranching operations. In 1907, Comstock donated 2,000 acres (800 hectares) to the city of Tulsa for use as its public square; this donation remains Tulsans' most significant civic donation since that time. In 1925, Tulsa City Council voted to rename Bixby after Wm. Hargrave Bixby III—an early settler and cattleman who had been instrumental in developing Tulsa's oil industry—in recognition of his assistance during Tulsans' drive to build their city up from humble beginnings into an important cultural center and economic powerhouse over many decades. On October 25, 1954—the date that Tulsa County was created from portions of Osage County—Bixby was officially renamed by then-Tulsa Mayor James Denny with approval from then-County Commissioner John Winters

In 1916, Commodore James Wolk developed a gift program in which he presented medals and hats (known today as "Wolk Medals") as gifts to officers and men serving in coastal defense patrols throughout New England. These awards were later renamed "Wolk Awards." Beginning in 1937, Commodore James Glynn established a coastline defense award program which gave out medals honoring heroism during coastal defense operations around New England (now known as The George Washington Medal). During World War II, Captain William Junker created The Junker Award in order To recognize outstanding achievements by American seamen serving aboard ships engaged in war-related activity off California's coast- including Operation Neptune's Spear (the Battle Of Santa Barbara). This process began with salvaging wrecked boats along California's shoreline and ended with presenting new technology or boats built from recycled materials to individuals or businesses who had made significant contributions To coastal defense efforts during wartime! Bixby is a town in McCurtain County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 6,752 at the 2010 census. Bixby is part of the Tulsa metropolitan area. It is located on the Arkansas River and is east of McAlester. The first post office in Bixby was established on May 11, 1907. The name may be from "BIXBY", an Indian word meaning "water point". A community called Big Creek was also founded about this time. In 1912, Bixby became a city and it held its first election that year with Mayor George Witherspoon as the winner. In 1916, the City Council authorized the erection of a water tower to provide water for citizens during times of drought. That same year saw construction of what would become known as "the most impressive building in McCurtain County" - the current courthouse and administration building were completed that year following years of fundraising by residents and businesses alike. In 1933, Bixby designated itself as an official Cottonseed production center due to its significant amount of cotton acreage. The town's economy boomed during World War II due to demand for munitions manufactured here at home by war-time manufacturers like Ford Motor Company and other companies manufacturing products essential to America's defense effort such as aircraft engines and tanks
In 1887, the town of Bixby was founded on the Bixby Indian Reservation in east Oklahoma. The community developed as a small, farming community with construction of a school and courthouse beginning in the early 1900s. In 1907, Bixby became an incorporated city. The first mayor was Fenton Hargrave. From 1947 to 1959, Tulsa Mayor George Romney served as mayor of Bixby. In 1958, when Tulsa annexed neighboring towns of Muskogee and Guthrie into Tulsa, Bixby became part of the new city limits.
