The Bixby Army Garrison has a rich history dating back to the early days of the Oklahoma Territory. The first soldiers garrisoned in the area were dragoons recruited from nearby Fort Sill and Fort Gibson. Soon, other units were stationed here, including artillery and cavalry. In 1907, General George Armstrong Custer was killed in an ambush near present-day Pryor. This event led to increased military activity in the area, and Bixby became known as "the headquarters post for the Cavalry Division of the Department of Indian Affairs." In 1916, a new armory was constructed here to serve as a hub for all army activities in the area. The Bixby Garrison also played an important role during World War I. After being alerted by Secretary of War Newton Baker that there was potential conflict between Germany and Austria over control of certain oil fields on account of their strategic importance, President Wilson ordered the mobilization of up to 1 million men for service in Europe. The Bixby Garrison helped provide equipment and training to these troops, which helped them make great strides against enemy forces. After World War I ended, many members of the garrison left for various reasons. However, some remained behind to help establish a new police department and keep watch over local businesses during Prohibition time. In 1927-28, additional soldiers arrived here when it was decided that Bixby would be home base for Operation Crossroads – an effort to contain communism in Mexico City. Today, much remains unchanged from those early years: The garrison is home to around 350 active duty troops who rotate through its facilities annually; there are also numerous reserve components (including airmen) stationed here; and both civilian and military functions are integrated into one seamless whole.

Bixby, Oklahoma is a small town located in the OUYT district of Oklahomas County. The population was 2,671 at the 2010 census. The community is home to Bixby High School and the Bixby Volunteer Fire Department. The first settler in what is now Bixby was John A. Stephenson who arrived July 4, 1866. Stephenson's brother-in-law, James Guthrie also moved to what is now Bixby in 1872. The village site was surveyed by JF Curry on March 10, 1875 and platting began on April 15 of that year with a total land area of . By 1880, there were twenty residents living in the tiny community of about . In 1902, the village had grown to with a total land area of ; it had anpost office and two churches - First Baptist Church (opened January 9th) and Methodist Episcopal Church (dedicated October 12th). By 1910, there were forty five residents living in Bixby. In 1907–1908, local attorney Judge Alfred Ladd formed an all white vigilante group known as "the Rangers" to patrol the rural areas around OUYT for criminals and lawbreakers such as gamblers and thieves. Ladd became so successful as their leader that he decided to continue operating his organization even after he lost his job due to Prohibition laws passed by Congress in 1916. When World War I broke out in Europe on August 14th 1914, many Americans enlisted but few knew how to use firearms so they bought them from British soldiers stationed at Fort Riley near Topeka while they trained at Camp Bowie north of Wichita Falls. On November 11th 1915 – one week after Armistice Day – President Woodrow Wilson signed Executive Order No 6102 calling for all citizens eighteen years or older who could carry arms into military service to do so immediately without any questions asked; this order led directly to Oklahoma becoming a state on December 16th 1915 via Act No 827 which named Edward Minton Governor ofOklahoma Territory under United States Constitution Section 5(a). In 1924–1925 Harry S Truman served as Governor before being elected Ulysses S Grant’s Vice President; during his governorship gas prices increased 25%. Bixby is a town in Hardin County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 1,534 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tulsa Metropolitan Area and the larger OKC metropolitan area. Bixby was founded in 1907 by J.D. Bixby and his family as a small community on the east side of what is now Interstate 45 near present-day Mockingbird Lane. The first post office in Bixby was established on October 5, 1907, and operated until it closed on January 14, 1912. The first store built in town was the Hennepin Store opened in 1909. In 1911, J.D. Bixby donated land to build a school which would become Hardin Senior High School today known as "Bixby High". In 1928, Ernie Kizer set up shop in what is now the central plaza of town and began serving essentially self-service food items such as soft drinks and cigarettes from an open truck parked outside his business for people to purchase directly from him instead of going to local stores that typically sold these items pre-packaged or through middlemen such as Ku Klux Klan members who offeredprotection for a fee during their marches through town on election days throughout Oklahoma Territory when alcohol could not be purchased openly without beingestivalized or engaging in violence against opponents (Kizer served this role until he died suddenly at age 83 years old). In 1933 annexation of much of Hardin County by Tulsa made Bixby its new city Limits while leaving most other portions unincorporated within City Limits; however with population growth within City Limits resulting largely from oil production activity taking place adjacent to Town limits both inside City Limits municipally owned fields leased by private interests (and then eventually sold back) continued to exist off Municipally owned property including some homes situated just south of current day I-45 exit (just east off US 72) adjoining Cleburne neighborhood today marked with white picket fence around large green field/garden currently used as housing development named "Old Neighborhood" following incorporation into Tulsa itself; however hard times for townsfolk accompanying rapid oil wealth creation occasioned serious social unrest ensuing between 1921 thru 1933 leading ultimately to revocation of Privileges enjoyed by all incumbents considered too friendly towards Oil Extraction industry having been traditionally associated with socially progressive values emergent during difficult economic times period herein dubbed "Ender's Time", meaning: beginningof endof good times 2nd ed.: Handbook of Oklahoma History
