Small batch coffee began in Bartlesville, Oklahoma in the early 1920s as a way to ensure quality and consistency. At that time, there were just a few small coffee factories in the area, so it was important for each business to produce high-quality coffee. The first smallbatch coffee factory in Bartlesville was founded by John Wetherald and his brother Walter. The brothers started making coffee fromseed beans in their parents’ farmhouse on Main Street. From this small beginning, they quickly realized that they needed to produce more than just standard cup of Joe. They wanted to create something special and unique that would set their coffees apart from the competition. In the 1930s, John Wetherald passed away, but his sons continued producing high-quality coffee until his death in 1984. After John Wetherald's death, his sons decided to continue production under their own name - JW Coffee Corporation - until 1995 when they merged with two other smallcoffee companies to form the National Coffee Company (NBC). Today, NBC continues to produce high-quality coffee under its own name - including our famous Presidential Blend - all while maintaining a strong connection with its origins in Bartlesville.

The first coffee shop in Bartlesville was opened by Mr. and Mrs. Harry White in 1916. The first coffee beans were grown on the family's farm east of Bartlesville. In 1941, the White's donated their farm to the University of Oklahoma for use as a research and development center for new technologies in agriculture. The university continued to use the property until it sold it to the city in 1957. The city leased the property back to OU until 1978 when OU purchased it from the city. In 1984, OU began its own coffee roasting program and made its first shipment of beans to market that year. In 1993, OU founded its own espresso machine manufacturing subsidiary, which continues today as United Coffee Manufacturing Corporation (UCMC). In 1998, OU became an affiliate member of Starbucks Corporation and has since been a customer favorite among students, staff, and community members in Bartlesville. Today, OU is one of Tulsa's most well-known universities with over 100 faculty members who are dedicated to educating students about science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). Over $1 billion has been invested in Tulsa economy through businesses and colleges since 2002 - making Tulsa one of America’s fastest growing cities!
Bartlesville is a small town in the Haskell County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 1,083 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tulsa metropolitan area. The first settlers in Bartlesville were white men who came to the area from Arkansas in 1881. They founded the town on an arm of the Arkansas River and named it after General James H. Bartlett, who had fought for American independence during the Mexican-American War. The town began to grow rapidly after oil was discovered in 1901 and production increased until World War II when output decreased because of wartime shortages of fuel. Since its establishment as a city in 1907, Bartlesville has experienced several waves of growth and decline. In recent decades, however, Bartlesville has been emerging as an important educational center with many high school students commuting to Tulsa for education opportunities; this has helped support local businesses and jobs. In addition, Bartlesville is home to two main shopping districts - one centered around downtown while another includes smaller neighborhoods within walking distance of each other (the " stroll district"). As an agricultural community with a wide variety of crops including corn, beans, oats, peas and cotton; Bartlesville also produces hogs and beef cattle. After World War I, the town became an important shipping stop on the Arkansas-Oklahoma Railway, and saw rapid growth in business and population until it reached its peak in the 1940s. In recent years, however, Bartlesville has experienced significant decline in population and economic value due to increasing competition from nearby cities and towns. Despite this decline, however, many of the city's legacy businesses still operate today including several large banks and numerous smaller businesses. Bartlesville is located at 36°10′N 98°30′W (36 degrees 10 minutes north latitude; 98 degrees 30 minutes east longitude). It lies about 15 miles northeast of Tulsa on the Arkansas-Oklahoma Railway which served as an important transportation artery for settlers throughout much of Oklahoma Territory before becoming inactive in 1907. The Oklahoman refers to Bartlesville as "the little old town" because it remained largely unchanged following its founding - even though there were other burgeoning communities nearby that mushroomed into major cultural centers by 1930. Today, a number of remaining downtown buildings dating back to 1907 remain witness to what was once one of America's most vibrant small towns culture
