In 1870, the town had a population of fifty-three people and it had two businesses: a store and a post office. The first school in Bartlesville was built in 1872 by Mrs. Burt O’Neill. The school operated for three years until it burned down. In 1875, the first school building was replaced with the current one, which still stands today. In 1880, Bartlesville became part of the Oklahoma Territory and it continued to grow throughout its time as an area. In 1907, it had a population of five hundred people and it had six businesses: four stores and one bank. The town also boasted two churches: First Baptist Church and Methodist Church. During World War II, Bartlesville played an important role in the war effort because many of its residents served in the military or were drafted into service. In 1945, when Oklahoma become an state that year, Bartlesville re-joined the United States after years of being apart of Mexico City County (now El Paso County). In recent years, there has been progress made within the community regarding social issues such as poverty and crime rates among other things; however, there are still some areas that need improvement such as infrastructure development along with healthcare needs including mental health care services for those who struggle with addiction or mental illness
On July 6, 1907, Bartlesville was founded as a town in present-day Oklahoma. It was named for General William Bartlett and the town's first post office opened on that date. The first building in the town was a store built by original settlers Lewis and Clark McCoy. The town grew quickly and by 1914 had a population of 100 people. In 1916, theOklahoma Legislature passed an act creating Tulsa County to encompass all of present-day Bartlesville and neighboring towns including Yukon. This gave the new community much needed development money, which helped it grow even more rapidly. The old schoolhouse in downtown Bartlesville burned down in 1922 but was rebuilt soon afterwards with help from local citizens. The current municipal building was erected in 1945, replacing an earlier structure which had been destroyed by fire many times over its history.
