In 1889 Orson Kossuth founded an agricultural colony called "Oasis" near present day Tulsa with someesteads comprising around 10 acres (4 hectares). He intended it to be a place where farmers could sell their produce direct to consumers rather than through local merchants or dealers. However, due to lack of rainfall during that year's severe drought, only about half of what Kossuth planned ended up being accomplished and only two hundred colonists were able to return home after spending three years living among Native Americans across eight counties north of Tulsa (Oklahoma Territory) A second attempt at founding an agricultural colony was made less than two months later when Wm Sibley organized a group led by his brother Jesse Sibley into establishing Colony No. 3 south of Topeka on April 25th1890 Settlers from this colony arrived October 12th 1890 After another winter without rain conditions began arriving LeRoy Price set out July 7th1892 with 50 men under his command including future mayor Royce Boyd s I believe he also founded Price Land & Cattle Company but this story has been debunked by many
