Bartlesville is a town in Barton County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 1,663 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tulsa metropolitan area. The town was founded in 1907 by George Bartles and his family. The name "Barton" comes from nearby Bartlett on the Arkansas River. The first post office in Bartlesville was established in 1907. The first settler in what would become Bartlesville was George Bartles who arrived with his family from Illinois in 1907. By 1912, there were 10 residents living in what is now Bartlesville. In 1913, the first school was built and taught by Mrs. John Waddell and Mr. Mershon Dixon who also served as teachers until 1915 when it became a high school under the new School District No 18 which included Tulsa and many other towns east of Tulsa along Canadian Creek north of Interstate 35W (now I-40). In 1916 Drs Henson & Gillespie opened an institution for Boys called Head Start which functioned until 1935 when it closed due to government regulations concerning child care In 1928 Ruben Skelton settled on a 640 acre tract adjacent to current day Airport Road/Northeast Freeway near Airport Boulevard/Alcoa Highway interchange and began developing this land into what would become home to over 2,000 people including 400 homesites located on 5 main streets: Airport Boulevard/Alcoa Highway intersecting Northeast Freeway just south of runway 16R; Airport Road northeast of airport; Northwest Freeway running parallel to airport road east of runway 16L; Park Avenue west of airport road NE cornering Aviation Parkway which ran concurrent with runway 16L for about . About two-thirds of all development took place between these five streets with additional housing being developed around Terminal Boulevard (later renamed Airport Drive) leading southwest out into Airport Valley where most people lived until they moved away during or after World War II when more businesses came online and growth stalled The city limits were extended eastward to include present day northeast Indian Wells before becoming an unincorporated community once again within Barton County limits In 1939 Alameda Service Co., Inc., one of several small service companies that had sprung up throughout early 1940s as American Defense Corp's overseas expansion progressed resulted in incorporation as Alameda Service Company Ltd.; however business operations ceased shortly thereafter due primarily to World War II shortages . However some employees continued working for their original company names through 1945 . That year saw another milestone for bartlesville as First National Bank opened its doors Also that year local farmers started marketing fresh produce directly to consumers via large fruit stands located along Stadium Drive NW facing the airport terminal buildings

Bartlesville is a small town in western Oklahoma, located on the edge of the Tulsa-Muskogee County area. The population was 9,986 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tulsa Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first residents of Bartlesville were Indians who came here to trade with the white man in 1819. In 1838, George Washington Bartles and his family settled in this vicinity and built a log cabin on a bluff overlooking the Muskogee River. They became ranchers and traders and developed a heavy commerce and political influence in northwest Oklahoma during the 1840s through their ownership of land, businesses, and political office. In 1861, when Abraham Lincoln was elected president of America, he traveled to northeast Oklahoma to campaign for reelection. He stopped at Bartlesville on his way southward from Tulsa. When he arrived, many people from eastern Oklahoma had come to meet him and greet him as he left for Kansas City. At that time there were few roads or railroads in northeast Oklahoma so it took some time for news about President Lincoln's visit to reach Bartlesville; however, word eventually got out and people came out to see him. Lincoln stayed at one of George Washington Bartles' ranch houses near present day Benton Hills until late that night when he rode back into town on horseback before stopping at Mr. Bartles' home where he retired for dinner with his family - an event which has been chronicled by several writers over the years including John Fenton Osborn Jr.. A year later (1862), after Lincoln's election as president was announced by Vice President Andrew Johnson in Springfield Illinois, General William Troup marched down Interstate 10 eastbound towards Tulsa while thousands of Americans watched along side local newspapers across the United States - one such article reporting "the great events stirring throughout our land". When General Troup reached Tulsa late Saturday evening just north of downtown BartLESVILLE NOBLE AND HIS FAMILY STOPPED HIM AT THE HOSPITAL TO SEE THE PRESIDENT FOR MEDICAL ATTENTION AS HE WAS IN SUFFERING FROM A PAINFUL HEADACHE... BECAUSE OF THIS IMPORTANT EVENT LOYAL SUPPORTERS OF GENERAL WILIAM TOUCHSTONE MARched On To See The President Which Led To His Release From Prison And Restoration Of His Political Power In This Country...
