The United States Naval Institute in Zanesville, Ohio, has a long and proud history of serving the naval community with Gifts for Sailors. Zanesville is a city in Lucas County, Ohio, United States. The population was 14,527 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Lucas County and home to the Zanesville Municipal Airport. The area now known as Zanesville was first settled by Germans in 1795. In 1814, John Nicholson founded the town of Nicholson on land he bought from the Ottawa Indians. A year later, General David Hunter built his headquarters here and renamed it after himself, Zanesville (a name also used for nearby Bowling Green). In 1825, Nicholas Drake founded the town of Plymouth in present-day Lucas County. When that township was disbanded in 1826, its citizens divided themselves into two new townships: North Liberty Township (formed from part of South Liberty) and West Liberty Township (formed from parts of East Liberty). On July 12, 1830, voters in both townships approved a petition asking Congress to create a new county withinLucas County named for George Rogers Clark – hence its present name of Clark County. This proposal failed to receive approval however; so on October 24th 1830, Congress created Clark County with an area of . The first courthouse was built here in 1831. The first judge appointed to serveClarkCountywas William Dickey who served until1835whenJohn Crain took overthejob. In 1850–51 Representative Solomon Wolcott visitedZanesvilleand noted that “the people are very friendly towards each other†and welcomed him warmly into their homes “without any formalityâ€â€”a sign that interracial cooperation was embryonic hereabouts! Of particular note were several cooperative stores established early in this century by blacksmiths/forge owners Anthony Ruddick and James Hoggarty along with their white partners Isaac Rankin and Ebenezer Sibley – all precursor businesses to major American chains like JCPenney Inc., Sears Roebuck & Co., Macy's Inc.–today's Macy's Incorporated Chain Store has been around since 1865! "Zanevilles" nickname derived from "Niles", oneidas Indian chief near whose village they were living during their stay there."

Zanesville is a town in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, United States. The population was 21,839 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Cuyahoga County and home to Zanesville University. The name "Zanesville" is a corruption of Johnstown (a name derived from the Shawnee word "hayneswawa"). The first permanent settler in what is now Zanesville was Nicholas Jabez Zane, who arrived in 1796. He named his community after Mount Zion Baptist Church which he had seen on an Indian trading trip to Kentucky that year. soon after, other early settlers included Nathanial Hinchey and Jeremiah Dixon. In 1800, John Taylor built a gristmill on the west side of the village center where he later resided until his death in 1851. A courthouse and jail were built between 1806-1811 by Hiram Ware and are still extant today as part of Village Hall Plaza. In 1830, Perry White founded Perrysburg Academy which became Western Reserve Institute in 1911 when it merged with Cleveland State Normal School (now Case Western Reserve University). In 1836, James Kapp bought 1/4 mile (1 kilometer) of land east of present-day Zanesville from Jonas Sutter for $300; this became Kapp's Corner where people could buy goods or services from him including boatbuilding supplies and fishing Tackle from his landing thereabouts until 1904 when it was taken over by PNC bank as their main branch campus facility adjacent to First National Bank building now known as FirstMerit Tower housing several hundred businesses across three levels including 100 specialty shops plus office space for banks large & small along with two restaurants open 24/7 plus a movie theater originally seating 1025 inside & 340 outside before moving all those seats indoors 1 level high starting out above ground atrium late 20th century then dropped all verticals belowground through many years so now just one large high room + 3 smaller rooms on each floor holding 1000+ sq ft total surface area Zanevilles History Museum
Zanesville was founded in 1795 by John Zanes and his brother James. The original settlement was on the Muskingum River near present day Dayton, Ohio. In 1824, Zanesville became a town. In 1836, it changed its name to Zanesville Township. On October 1, 1870, it merged with the towns of Highland Heights and Lorain to form the new city of Cleveland.
