Zanesville, Ohio is a city in and the county seat of Lucas County, Ohio, United States. The population was 43,565 at the 2010 census. The city is located on the west bank of the Scioto River between Pittsburgh and Cincinnati. It formed from part of Solon Township in 1802. Zanesville is named for John Zane, an early settler and surveyor in what is now Lucas County. The first permanent European settlers arrived in 1788 when Nicholas Vendrell moved west fromheny County to purchase land near what is now Zanesville from the Shawnee nation. By 1800, over 100 families had gathered around a small trading post called "Chippewa Station" on the Scioto River. In 1802, parts of Scioto Township were organized as Zanesville Township to take advantage of its convenient location midway between Cleveland and Cincinnati on two different trails that crossed each other near present-day Third Street and State Street (the latter being then known as West Main Street). In 1830, surveyors began mapping out areas for townships within Lucas County based on current village boundaries. One such map showed that Chippewa Village would form part of the new township but it was not until 1837 that villagers improved their plot by purchasing additional land east of State Street/Third Avenue (now North Fourth Street) so they could build a town square complete with a courthouse and schoolhouse which they called "Village Hall." The first election to select trustees took place on May 1st of that year with John Grier as trustee; all trustees were men except one who was also Mayor pro tem during this time – William Fenton (who later served as First Mayor after becoming state senator). Development did not begin until after World War II when government policies towards subdivisions led to more people moving into central Ohio than ever before including many soldiers returning home after serving in Europe or Asia. Many factories opened up along Third Avenue throughout this period making life easier for everyday citizens while businesses flourished thanks to advertising campaigns stressing how much Procrastination cost! Zanesville, Ohio is a town located in the U.S. state of Ohio. The population was 24,824 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Akron metropolitan area. The first permanent settler in what is now Zanesville was Drago Clements, who built a cabin on the Scioto River in 1817. In 1830, John Haines founded Zanesville's first store and post office with his family name Kline. The town was named after General George Washington Haines, commander of Fort Erie during the French and Indian War and one of the founders of Youngstown (now Cleveland). In 1836, Nathanial Bresnahan organized a millrace system to provide waterpower for mills in neighboring towns such as Cleveland and Youngstown. By 1840, most of Zanesville had been abandoned due to disease brought over by refugees from the American Civil War and lack of agricultural production in central Ohio following natural disasters like Hurricane Andrew (1868). However, some businesses reopened including Niles Tavern which became known as "Bresnahan's". A new church was erected in 1870 and named Stroudsburg Methodist Episcopal Church after Bishop James Wray Stroud (1810-89) who served as pastor there from 1875-77; also responsible for creating zoning regulations that limited building size and development around churches across Northeast Ohio beginning in that era. In 1895 Zanesville became an independent city when it merged with residents of nearby Euclid Heights into what would become Akron; this merger would result in many changes for both cities over time including increasing joblessness rates among African Americans living together before World War II while white working class families continued to prosper within their respective communities – even if they were left behind economically following economic recessions elsewhere throughout much of America during that decade600 years later!
