Navy deployments have a long and proud history in Youngstown, Ohio. The city is home to the Navy’s Western Reserve Fleet, which is responsible for the storage and disposal of military equipment throughout the area. This arsenal of weapons and technology has been at the heart of many wars fought by the United States over the years. The first naval deployment in Youngstown was on December 8, 1898 when Commodore Alfred P. King led a group of sailors from USS Constitution into Battle Creek Harbor to provide support for US forces fighting Spanish troops during the Mexican-American War. In 1915, when World War I began, Commodore John W. Farragut ordered USS Constitution torpedo boats sent into action against Turkish ships off Syria’s coast. These strategic engagements helped secure America’s entrance into World War I and helped make Youngstown one of America’s premier war cities. In 1925, after more than 40 years as an anchor point for American warships in this region, Commodore David Dixon Ziegler decided that it was time for Navy units stationed in Cleveland to be moved closer to their own native city under new leadership within the navy department itself. On September 1, 1925 USS Denver (AO-2) arrived at Terminal Island Naval Shipyard on Cleveland's west side and began preparations for her move northward to its current location near Lake Erie just outside of town limits. That same year also saw USS Detroit (AO-1) arrive at Terminal Island Naval Shipyard from Lake Erie via ship canal; she would eventually serve as flagship for Commander US Fleet Forces Europe before being transferred back to service with Commander US Fleet Forces Pacific in 1945. Since then naval deployments have taken place regularly in Youngstown - both across lake Erie and out beyond it - contributing materially to many local wars fought by our country over the past century or so! Youngstown, Ohio is a city in and the county seat of Warren County, Ohio, United States. The population was 57,711 at the 2010 census. It is the fourth-largest city in Northeast Ohio after Cleveland, Akron, and Youngstown Township. The area now known as Youngstown was first settled by Native Americans in the late 17th century. The town of Youngstown was founded on November 20, 1814 by settlers from Dublintown (now part of Akron) who had moved there to escape religious persecution in their home country. In 1825, the name of the settlement was changed to Youngstown after General John Custer's victory over Indian forces at Little Bighorn. During World War II, Youngstown served as an important military center for both America and Great Britain. More than 1 million people were employed in various war industries such as munitions manufacturing and shipbuilding; many others worked in food production or other aspects of wartime preparedness. After the war ended, much industry closed down and most residents lost their jobs. Youngstown, Ohio is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Stark County. The population was 95,554 at the 2010 census, making it the third-largest city in Ohio and one of its five metropolitan statistical areas. It is also home to Youngstown State University and part of the Greater Cleveland area. The history of Youngstown stretches back to 1790 when George Washington visited what is now Youngstown as part of his survey for a new national capital. The town's first settler was Jonathan Green who built a cabin on the site that still stands today. In 1814, James Krieger bought 640 acres (250 hectares) in what is now downtown Youngstown from Nicholas Tiffin for $5 per acre ($40,000 total). This purchase made Krieger one of the earliest settlers in what would become Youngstown Township. In 1825 Drury erected his first building on Main Street—the current Stroud Building—and began trading medical supplies and other goods from his lab at 11 East Third Streets. By 1830, he had opened an operating business which continued until 1840 when he sold all his assets to John Prentice for $1 million (equivalent to $245 million today). That same year Prentice founded The Trust Company which became one of America's leading credit companies. During this time period much progress was being made in glassmaking in nearby Akron; however, due to tariffs placed by President Andrew Johnson there were no glass products reaching market until after 1870 when importation increased following technological advances by furnace manufacturer Abram Meyerson (1820-1912). soon thereafter Youngstown became known as "The Glass City". From 1850-1900 many young men left their families behind for professional opportunities in cities such as Boston or New York but after World War I they settled back down again aroundYoungstown because manufacturing jobs were available again which lasted until 1970s during Vietnam Era etc., many businesses closed during those years especially aluminum smelters and steel mills while Downtown went through hard times with few if any major projects undertaken since then
