Xenia, Ohio is a small town in Stark County, Ohio. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Xenia Municipal Airport is located in Xenia and it is home to the Xenia-Canton Regional Airport which serves as the primary airport for Lucas County and Warren County. The first settlers in Xenia were German immigrants who arrived in 1824. They platted what would become Xenia on April 4, 1827. The name may have been chosen because it sounded like a Greek word meaning "west wind." In 1829, John Sauer established a flour mill here and also built a gristmill. From these beginnings until 1861, there was only one store in Xenia – the Grosvenor Store Company. In 1861, an act of Congress changed Stark County from an agricultural to a manufacturing county and made Xenia an incorporated village with a government headed by trustees appointed by the county commissioners. On December 7, 1865, this village had its first election when Trustee Julius Wohl elected James Aiken as his own representative to serve out the unexpired term of Trustee George Haggerty Jr.. In 1870–71 (the last years of townshiphood), xenial school was organized under State law then becoming nationally common with such institutions as Gradeschools (1901) throughout America; however there were no public schools within Township boundaries until 1889 when four blocks east of present day Main Street corner two private schools opened: First Congregational School (1896) and Holy Cross School (1902). In 1912–13 construction began on what would become known as "The Great Western Railroad", running from Euclid to Cleveland over portions now occupied by I-675 at Cedar Road/State Route 813 south of downtown Xenia and northward along Cedar Road past current day West Side Drive before terminating at Cleveland Station where passengers could transfer onto local trains heading into central Ohio or points east for points west including Akron and Canton; thereafter freight service terminated while passenger service continued via I-675 into downtown Cleveland serving both Euclid Terminal Railway Depot ()[] [] as well as Brownsville Terminal Railroad Depot ().
