When the Xenia, Ohio Army National Guard Armory was built in 1964, it was the first national guard armory in Ohio. The unit has seen its share of military deployments and has been used for everything from training to entertaining troops. In addition to serving as an armory and troop center, the armor also offers exhibition space for art exhibitions and concerts. The gift history of the army's deployed gift history can be traced back to World War II when the army set up a depot in Xenia to store munitions. From there, items donated by local residents were organized into categories such as clothing, books, plants, toys and more. Gifts given during peacetime were also honored with a plaque or flag display at the armory. In 2006, however, the xeniaarmyNationalGuardArmory closed its doors after years of operation due to budget cuts. However, thanks to donations from locals and online donors alike, the armory reopened in 2014 as an interactive museum with displays on military weaponry and equipment from throughout history. Xenia is a small town in Summit County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,644 at the 2010 census. Xenia is part of the Akron–Canton–Middletown Micropolitan Statistical Area. The xenia post office was established in 1881 and has been in operation since then. The first settler in Xenia was James Biskupski and his family who arrived on a farm near Xenia on October 15, 1881. In 1886 George Aanderson moved to Xenia from Lancaster Township and built the first house in what would become Xenia. By 1890 there were over 20 residences in Xenia with an estimated population of 300-400 people. In 1899 the XENIA School District was organized with a school board and 7 teachers as trustees. Classes began for students from Kindergarten through 8th grade on March 4th that year under the new name "Ohio Valley Schools". In 1902 when Xenia voters approved $5,000 to be set aside for a public library they also voted to rename it "Lancaster Library" after Mrs. Lora Lancaster who had contributed much to that project before her death in 1903. The library opened its doors on December 2nd of that year under this name with Msgr Vincent J . Cardoso as the first librarian and 54 bookshelves full of books representing all aspects of American history including literature, biography, science etc… With added computer resources and interlibrary loan service available online since its inception it has grown into one of Northeast Ohio's most recognized libraries providing access to over 17500 items including rare book manuscripts and photographs! Xenias location makes it susceptible to flooding due to rain events which have occurred annually since 1915 however this hasn't stopped residents from building their homes atop raised flood plains which provide some protection against damage caused by floods while allowing farmers access to their crops during wet seasons In addition to its physical assets such as itsLibrary system as well as virtual resources like Interlibrary Loan services; Zeniatx offers citizens community engagement opportunities through many programming initiatives such as summer reading programs where children participate in activities related to various topics chosen by program directors; art walks throughout July/August featuring local artists selling their work door-to-door; monthly Block Party complete with food & drinks appropriate for any climate; numerous special events throughout the year both large scale (e.g., Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony) or more intimate (i.e., infant baptism). Xenia, Ohio is a small town in Lucas County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,546 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland–Akron–Canton Metropolitan Statistical Area.Xenia was founded in 1834 by George Washington Wilkinson and his wife Martha Thomson Wilkinson. The name "Xenia" is from the Greek word meaning: land of milk and honey. George Washington Wilkinson was born in 1786 in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. He moved to Xenia as a child and worked his way up through local businesses owned by his father, Andrew Wilkinson Sr., until he became owner of the Wilkinson Drugstore on Main Street in 1819. In 1830 he married Martha Thomson who also came to Xenia that year from Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. They raised four children here: George Washington (1831-1907), Lulu (1833-1910), Everett (1835-1920) and Clarissa (born December 22nd, 1840). The first store on Xenia's main drag was opened by George Washington Wilkinson Sr., Andrew Wilkinson Jr., and their families on November 3rd, 1834. It served as a stop for travelers coming down Route 9 north from Cincinnati en route to their stores in Akron or Canton. That same year saw the opening of the first schoolhouse in Xenia – Mrs. Thomson's daughter Lulu taught classes there from 1835 until her death in 1860. After Lulus death Zeneca Female Seminary opened its doors for girls only on May 26th of that year with Reverend John Melling as its first president In 1850 it was noted that there were only sixteen male residents living here when assessed; however by 1870 there had grown to over eighty! By 1900 this number had reached one hundred fifty six!
