The Ohio Air National Guard's 1st Squadron, 413th Airlift Wing gifted a total of 13 airframes and engines to the Xenia-based 3rd Regional Air Command in 2020. The squadron also donated two C-130J aircraft to the wing in 2021.
Xenia is a small town in central Ohio, located on the Scioto River. The population was 5,824 at the 2010 census. Xenia is part of the Athens-Clarke County metropolitan statistical area. Xenia began as a small farming community in 1868 when three brothers, John, James and Michael Xenka bought land just upstream from modern-day Xenia on the Scioto River. The first store in Xenia was built by Michael Xenka and his brother James near what is now Market Street. In 1875, William Wessel became one of the first settlers in Xenia and he built a cabin on what is today State Road 9A east of present day Main Street. Wessel's cabin still stands to this day and can be visited starting at 9am weekdays during summer months (closed Sundays). In 1876, George Hecker established a post office in Xenia with two mail carriers service providing mail for farmers along both sides of the Scioto River. In 1886, John Goodrich opened an general store which served as the nucleus for much of what would become today's xeniatown development around it - including most notably Hecker's Drug Store which remains open to this day (now part of NW HealthCARE). Goodrich also donated land across from where Hecker's currently sits to make way for what would become Elysian Fields Park - home to many local businesses such as HEB grocery stores and restaurants since its inception in 1984. The earliest known settlers were actually French Canadian soldiers who were stationed at Fort Dearborn during World War I before being sent back home and settling here permanently in 1919. They founded L'Ancienne Cité de la Colombie-Britannique et du Québec (later renamed simply Canadien) here before moving out into their own farmsteads some time later.
