The United States military has a long and varied history in Worthington. The first U.S. military installation in the town was Fort Cassin, which was built in 1814 as part of the Northwest Territory east of the Ohio River. In 1816, the fort became known as Fort Miamis and served as a base for various Indian campaigns against Native Americans in what is now Indiana and Illinois. In 1830, after Ohio became a state, Fort Miamis was transferred to Worthington and served as an arsenal until 1848 when it was decommissioned. In 1865, Worthington became the site of the Battle of Gettysburg where about 50,000 American soldiers were killed during an engagement that helped end the Civil War. In 1903, General Order No. 1/5 established Mount Vernon Barracks onOFort Cassin Road to serve as headquarters for the 4th Infantry Regiment (Ohio National Guard) stationed in Columbus at that time. The barracks remained active through World War II until they were closed in 1945 due to budget cuts by then-Secretary of Defense James Forrestal. The building then functioned as a storage facility before being taken over by Worthington Technical College from 1965 until it closed its doors in 1999. Worthington's role within American armed forces has continued through modern times with both local and national deployments throughout Operation Neptune Spear (2009), NATO's Joint Expeditionary Force intervention into Afghanistan (2012-2013), September 11th Attacks (2011), Hurricane Sandy (2012) and other events such as Operation Gatekeeper 2011 – 2012 which disrupted traffic near Cleveland Hopkins International Airport during rush hour; anti-terrorism operations currently taking place around Greater Cleveland;and more recently Operation Noble Eagle 2013 which began on October 27th and ended two days later on November 2nd inside Job Corps Training Center located off I-270 southbound between Euclid Avenue South & West Side Highway).
Worthington, Ohio is a small town in extreme northwest Ohio. It is the county seat of Lucas County and lies on the Scioto River. The population was 7,569 as of the 2010 census. The name "Worthington" may be derived from the nearby Worthington Hills, which are a natural landmark in the town. The first settlers in what is now Worthington were farmers who arrived around 1795. They began to build log homes and came up with the name "Worthington" because they thought it would make them stand out from other towns in their area. By 1825, there were over 100 people living in Worthington and it had a post office that was open three days a week. In 1827, James Kincaid established an early cotton gin in Worthington and started to produce cottonseed oil for local use. This led to another boom for the town during the 1830s when farmers started producing beans, cornmeal, flour, sugar cane (which became known as "Cleveland sugar"), oats and hay products. In addition to these primary industries, trade conducted by members of both local churches and distant New England families helped keep Worthington alive during this time period. During World War II, many residents served in military units stationed throughout Ohio or elsewhere overseas while their hometown was bombed or burned down repeatedly. Some of these individuals later founded businesses or lived near their former homes where they continue to operate today including; Wacoal inc., 3M Company Headquarters (now manufacturers of Performance Foam), Spectrum Consultants Inc., Knoppers candy company and more than 50 other small businesses across six counties located within one hour's drive of downtown Cleveland! This community spirit has continued into recent years with events such as concert nights at Local One Theater which have brought together many locals from all walks of life for some great entertainment; however major events have included large-scale conferences/fairs which have drawn national attention (such as Midsomer Murders Festival) or even becoming host cities for world championships such as American Lacrosse Federation Men’s Nationals & Women’s Nationals - bringing not only big business but top athletes along with plenty of family memories!

Worthington is a city in southern Ohio, located on the Scioto River. The population was 5,754 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland-Akron-Canton, OH metropolitan area. The first Europeans to arrive in what is now Worthington were French traders and missionaries who landed in 1788 and founded a mission known as " Notre Dame de la Rivière" (New Jerusalem). In 1814, James K. Polk established a post office here with the name "Worthington." The post office operated until 1870. In 1824, John Fenton purchased land from the Potawatomi Indians and built a gristmill on the Scioto River. Fenton's milling business prospered for many years and he became one of Ohio's leading landowners and merchants. In 1830, he donated land to build what would become Worthington High School; it opened its doors in 1834. After America's admission into Confederation in 1789, settlers began flowing into Ohio from all over New England and Pennsylvania looking for new opportunities and lands to farm or explore. Many of these early settlers were men of Means or higher economic status who had opportunity to purchase large tracts of land near where they lived or developed their businesses. One such man was Amos Worthington who arrived hereabouts around 1800 along with his brother John Aiken (1785-1851), Samuel Dudley (1795-1868), George Brown (1800-1872), Daniel Webster (1804-1912) and others soon after America's independence from Great Britain was celebrated on July 4th of that year by resolutions adopted by Congress under General Washington’s direction “Resolved that this country be divided between them [the United States] as best may appear to them according to their respective merits” A group of wagon drivers led by Isaac Chauncey surveyed an area further downriver called Eau Claire which would eventually become Worthington Township on November 8th, 1825 when surveyors reported finding high ground suitable for settlement within two miles of the river mouth at present day Castleton Road/Upper Scioto River Road junction east of Middleburg Heights Boulevard just south of Interstate 80 exit 20b off I-80 southbound lanes traveling eastwardly across I-80 at milepost 281½ southbound near Urbana Drive/I-680 exit 13&14 off I—680 northbound lanes travelling westwardly across I‐680 reached today’s Castleton Road intersection approximately 1 ½ miles northeast corner Of Upper Scioto River Rd./Castleton Rd., making it today’s border between Uniontown Township & Scott Township
Worthington was founded in 1796 by George Worthington and his wife Deborah. The town grew rapidly after it was incorporated as a village in 1811. In the 1830s, Worthington became a center of manufacturing and commerce with its own mills, churches, and schools. By the 1840s, the town had reached its peak with over 1,000 people living in homes built on large plots of land. However, economic decline began to set in during the mid-19th century as production dropped at local mills and businesses while new transportation methods replaced horse-drawn vehicles for delivery of goods. By the early 20th century, Worthington had lost most of its population and infrastructure due to Progressivism and other factors. Today, the town is a small community with a few hundred residents.
