The beginning of the coffee industry in Worthington, Ohio can be traced back to 1837 when a group of men from Cincinnati started selling coffee. The first beans were roasted and packaged in a small shop on Third Street. In 1951, the first Starbucks opened its doors in Worthington and quickly became a staple for local residents and tourists alike. Worthington is a town in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Lucas County. The population was 18,804 at the 2010 census, making it the second-most populous town inLucas County after Cleveland. It is part of the Dayton–Cleveland–Akron metropolitan area. The name Worthington comes from "Worthington Township", which was organized in 1802 as part of what is now Lake Erie Township along with Amherst and Clinton townships. The township became Worthington Township on February 17, 1827 when it was separated from Amherst Township to form Lucas County. At its peak, Worthington had a population of 25,000 in 1930; however, that number has declined since then and today it has 14,500 residents. The first settler in Worthington was Nicholas Cordes (1784-1856), who purchased land east of present-day downtown from John Haggerty for $1 per acre in 1809. Other early settlers included Isaac Nichols (died December 3, 1865), John Fenton (died March 10, 1862), David Carruth (September 5, 1800 – May 1, 1860), George Prentice (July 9th - April 15th 1814) and Peter Jordon (November 12th - October 2nd 1830). In 1830 Daniel Gentry moved to what is now northcentral side of town from Hazardville on the Scioto River Valley and opened a tannery there; this business would become one of the largest employers in town until its closure around 1984. One local landmark built by early settlers include two churches: First Baptist Church constructed circa 1840s on lot located between Main Street and West Fourth Street while Stake Methodist Episcopal Church replaced original log building erected about 1850 across West Third Street near current day University Avenue intersection; both were rebuilt using Congregationalist architect Nathaniel Briggs with brick trim following Civil War casualty influx into community during Reconstruction period including many enslaved Africans brought over as slaves courtesy Union army barracks at Point Park Reserve military academy where African American soldiers were trained for combat roles under white officers during war era Ida Burch House located on North High Street between State Road 611E & 613N which served as home to postmaster Samuel Burch from 1861 until his death 1870 also serves as historical museum open daily 9am-4pm except Mondays when closed due to weather conditions

Worthington is a small town in the Mahoning Valley region of northwest Ohio, United States. The population was 7,083 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Akron–Canton–Middletown, OH, Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settler in Worthington was John Worthington Jr., who arrived in 1781. He and his family were among the earliest white settlers in what would become Worthington Township. The town began to be established as a village on December 12, 1801 when it was organized as a separate township by an act of the General Assembly of Ohio under the name of "Worthington Heights." On January 1, 1803, it became a full-time incorporated village with its own board of trustees and mayor/council. The Village business district extended from State Street east to High Street. On November 3, 1907, Worthington had its first high school graduate when Edward Ahern received his diploma from Stroudsburg Manual Training School (now Mohawk Valley Community & Technical College). On February 9th 1915 voters approved issuance of $5,- worth of bonds for new schools in the village limits to finance construction of Central High School which would open that fall. That same year also saw approval by voters for incorporation into the larger city of Akron through an act passed by the General Assembly; this made Worthington one-half mile long by two miles wide with a population size estimated at only 2,000 people when it opened its doors on October 5th 1917 By 1920 there were over 25 businesses located within walking distance or less for most residents making it one continuous shopping and entertainment district complete with movie theaters and fine restaurants
Worthington was founded in 1788 by John Worthington. The city was named after the town of Worthing in Sussex, England. In 1814, it was annexed by Cleveland and became a part of that city. It ceased to be a separate municipality on July 1, 1974.
