The first known coffee shop in Wooster, Ohio was opened by Gideon Boone in 1827. The first record of the town having a coffee house is from 1856 when the Journal-Sentinel wrote that “A Coffee House has been established at Wooster, by order of the Board of Trade.” In 1892, local businessmen Augustus C. Kapp and George S. Prentice opened the first record store in Wooster with a grocery section and began selling coffee beans from their farm near Lebanon. In 1916, the Wooster Coffee Company was founded by J.B. Caldwell which continued to sell coffee until it closed its doors in 1978. From 1916 until 1978,Wooster was home to two different types of coffee shops - one for regular customers and another for merchants who sold beans only to consumers (the latter being called a roaster). Today, there are only a few remaining businesses that offer espresso drinks and ground coffee products such as Bialetti machines or French press coffees

There is no one definitive account of the first World War coffee trade. However, there are a number of references to coffee being traded throughout the war. One such reference is an article from 1905 in The Ohio Statesman, which reports that "coffee was brought into this country on ships from Europe." It's likely that early coffee traders were familiar with both European and American markets, and may have looked for opportunities to sell either product at a profit. The first World War also saw the beginning of coffee production in Wooster. In 1916, George Hardesty started a small family-owned mill in what is now the city block bounded by Elm Street on the east, Fulton Street on the west, and High Street on the south. The Hardesty mill produced around 100 pounds of coffee per day; it remains one of Wooster's most significant landmarks today. In 1919, John Hargrave opened his own mill in what is now downtown Wooster. This mill became known as Hargrave & Sons Coffee Mills (later Hargrave Bros.), and continues to produce quality beans today. Over the years, other local mills have been established throughout Wooster – including those owned by James Kappeler (1910-1968), Harry Schaefer (1925-1987), and Hugh Coyle (1945-present). These mills continue to produce quality beans for export and remain some ofWooster's most important cultural attractions.

The area that would become Wooster was settled by Germans in 1814. Wooster became a village in 1824, and then a town in 1828. The post office was established in 1830. The name derived from "Wolferding" (a farmstead), which means "place where wool is raised." Wooster has been home to several famous people including General George Washington and President Abraham Lincoln. In 1916, Wooster hosted the first annual World's Fair, which attracted over 200 million visitors from around the world.

Wooster is a town in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Lucas County. The population was 26,992 at the 2010 census. It lies on the border of Lucas and Cuyahoga counties, east of Cleveland and south of Akron. Wooster is located on the western edge of Lake Erie, just inside the University Park city limits. The Geauga River flows through it to join the Cuyahoga River about southwest of downtown Wooster. The first permanent settler in what would become Wooster was Nicholas Purdy in 1795; he founded a small log cabin near present-day Elmira Road and Mulberry Street. A second group arrived in 1800: John Trimble, Jesse Barnes, Daniel Worthington, David Browning, James McNaughtney and John Fenton built two more cabins around 1802 or 1803. Thecommunity name "Wooster" was derived from an original Native American word meaning "place where deer are kept." In 1812 Nicholas Purdy sold his land to George Rogers Clark for $2 per acre ($100 today). Clark's successor as governor of Ohio, William Henry Harrison (1811–1865), made Wooter part of his Creek Nation tribal lands during his Indian Removal campaign against Creek Chief Osawatomie tribe member Andrew Jackson (1767–1845). In 1830 King established a school district that included all unincorporated areas west of Ashtabula County line; by 1840 all but one school district were withinLucas County . When territorial boundaries were redrawn after Ohio achieved statehood in 1825, Wooster became part of Cuyahoga COUNTY . In 1837 Wm Silliman organizedthe village trustees who managed local affairs with no mayoral power until 1861 when township trustees took over fiscal responsibility for village buildings.. Wooster is a town in and the county seat of Medina County, Ohio, United States. The population was 21,811 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland–Akron–Canton, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. Wooster served as the original capital of Medina County. The first courthouse was built in 1814 on the site now occupied by Old Wooster High School. In 1827, a new courthouse was erected at what is now Elmiraqua Boulevard and Wooster Avenue. On July 24, 1836, Wooster became the second township in Medina County to be organized when it was laid out from portions of Scioto Township. The following year saw its first election for representatives to the Ohio General Assembly; three residents chose to represent it instead of Wooser Township residents who elected one individual to serve both townships simultaneously. In 1840, voters approved annexation by Akron into Cleveland and then again by Cleveland in 1846; this made Wooster an official city within Cleveland's boundaries. The railroad reachedWooster in 1868; this led to a rapid growth in woollen industries which continue until today with major production sites including Easton Mills (now J&J Mills), Stamford Mills (now Stroudsburg Mills), and Appleton-Ashland Mill No. 2 (now Ashland mills). In 1915 Tremont Company president Julius Rosenwald donated land adjacent to his Newark Steel Works for development into what would become Tremont University; enrollment began in 1916 and grew rapidly until World War II when enrollment plummeted due to wartime restrictions on college recruiting eligibility
