Wilmington is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Delaware County. As of the 2010 census, the population was 54,815. The Wilmington metropolitan area had a population of 100,341 as of July 2015. It is located on the southern shore of Lake Erie and includes many smaller towns and villages along its shores. Wilmington was founded by French Canadians in 1788 as a trading post on the Canadian River between what are now Canada and Pennsylvania. The first white American settlers arrived in 1792, when John Blair set up a homestead at present-day Wilmington Landing on land that he had bought from Chief Wyandotte for £5 per acre (equivalent to $150 today). By 1801, most of what is now Delaware County had been added to Wilmington; but because Ohio was still part of Virginia at this time, some residents continued to live in Canada until 1803 when Ohio became a state. In 1807, George Washington visited Wilmington while visiting Cincinnati and recommended it for incorporation into the United States as an independent town with representation in Congress under his new presidency; Wilmington became an incorporated village two years later on March 3rd (the first day of May). In 1830, William McKinley was elected president after serving one term as governorrigan America from Michigan; McKinley’s victory guaranteed that Columbus would become America’s new capital (which it did in 1897), giving additional impetus to growth around this small port town on the southern shoreline of Lake Erie. After McKinley’s death in 1901, much development stalled due to lack of funding; but this changed with prohibition during World War I which created demand for jobs aboard warships stationed off Great Lakes naval bases – jobs that Wilmingtons Ports Company were able to provide starting in 1919 with its own shipbuilding yards deep inside their city limits! After Prohibition ended following World War II and steel production resumed thanks largely to Korean War veteran draft dodgers returning home with expertise in weldingsteel products into ships unable to be built without it—Wilmington quickly regained its prominence both economically and culturally as one of America’s leadingolded ports! Today there are over 200 businesses operating within downtown boundaries alone including banks (JPMorgan Chase & Co., Wells Fargo & Company), technology companies such as Apple Inc., Amazon Web Services Inc., Microsoft Corporation, Google parent Alphabet Inc., Verizon Communications Inc.–just a few examples! And all told more than 2 million people work or visit downtown every day! The history surrounding Wilmington goes back even further than simply those who live here today: before European settlement there were several tiny villages dotting what is now Delaware County – Oneonta being especially prominent due to its strategic location just upstream from where Detroit enteredprising young men started manufacturing goods primarily fur coats for traders out west during the late 1700s NOTE: Many T-Shirts made here also back then………. The name “Wilmington” comes from French Canadian Jean-Baptiste de la Salle who settled near present day Portsmouth Township on October 24th 1789 AFTER HAVING ENTERTAINED A BUSINESS FURTHER DOWN THE RIVER CONNECTING TO THE CANADIAN GAS PUMP IN PITTSBURGH ON HIS WAY TO MAKE TRADE WITH THE WILMINGTON SETTLEMENT He thought it would make sense named his new place duPont after himself since he owned considerable land adjacent To Pittsburg Landing along With other early pioneers OF ENGLAND including Thomas Telford AND WILLIAM STRICKLAND etc….. so they called him Du Pont Street incidentally
