Wilmington is a town in Delaware County, Ohio, United States. The population was 8,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dayton–Middletown, OH-DE-KY Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to settle in this area were French traders and missionaries who arrived in 1795. They built trading posts on the Great Miami River and founded the city of Wilmington on the site of present day downtown Wilmington in 1802. The following year, Ohio statehood was granted to Ohio under President George Washington’s orders. The country’s first territorial legislature convened at Wilmington and passed an enabling act for what would become Delaware County on March 14, 1803. In 1806, Congress created Athens Township out of parts of Delaware and Butler counties. On October 1st of that year, it merged with Dover Township to form Wilmington Township #2 (or eastward). In 1815, when America became a republic under James K. Polk as president, he issued an executive order designating Wilmington as seat of government for newly admitted – but undeveloped – West Virginia Territory which included much of Ohio excepting Medina County (then known as Cincinnati), including much agricultural land near present day Dayton/Middletown area where today’s First National Bank building stands; however Ayerstown was not added until 1861 after it was ceded from Kentucky by Ulysses S Grant during the American Civil War as part of overall peace settlement negotiations between Union forces and Confederate troops over the issue of slavery within those territories along with other issues such as states’ rights to secede from the Union if they so chose When America gained its independence from Great Britain on July 4th, 1776 she inherited Hong Kong Island which comprised most or all of modern-day Delaware County including much or all of Toledo/Miamisburg metropolitan area adjacent to both cities - making it one large British colony subject only to British laws insofar as commerce and trade were concerned after centuries' intermittent relationship with their European counterparts What followed were years during which revolutionary war veteran General George Washington conducted daily business dealings with various members or leaders throughout British North America through his official representatives while Haig held control over military operations within Canada - primarily Fort Erie outside Buffalo - effectively managing military resources available southward while also nurturing sources of intelligence sharing among these various participants leading up to decisive Battle Of Yorktown near Philadelphia resulting in complete defeat for British Forces less than 2 weeks later after months long siege culminating with virtual annihilationof Continental Army inside Yorktown peninsula thereby finally ending war for independence days earlier than planned This process - led by General Washington himself who supervised daily operations from Kingston Palace located just west side OF Yorktown peninsula - would be repeated numerous times throughout continental United States providing operational leadership during wartime decisions critical to success regardless of borders During Reconstruction followingCivil War there were many Haitians brought over aboard US ships landing at Syracuse Harbor on Long Island Sound several thousand strong initially working odd jobs ashore before being turned into labor force contributing significantly to growth and prosperity underlying white society post-war thru assimilation efforts initiated by US government

In 1814, Wilmington became part of the United States after its independence from Great Britain. The market for cotton goods declined during the 20th century, but Wilmington has continued to experience significant economic growth in recent years.
