The Willowick Post has been publishing since 1879. Our mission is to provide a voice for the voiceless, and we do this by EDUCATING OUR COMMUNITY. Through our newsprint, online presence, and events, we want to promote understanding and empathy towards others through story-telling. One of the ways that we do this is through our history department’s annual Military Deployed Gift History Contest. This year’s contest was open to all high school students in Ohio who are interested in pursuing a career in military service. This year’s contest was themed “Forgotten Warriors: The Story of the Willowick Legionnaires”. In order to win a prize worth $1,000+, contestants had to write an article about one of the legionnaires from Willowick who served during World War II. The winning entry was written by Payton Pugh and read by Joshua Mahoney at the recent Legionnaire Museum event held at VFW Post 5954 in Springfield Township on Saturday night (May 21). The event wassponsored by local resident Rick Caruso and attended by members of the post staff as well as other community members who were interested in learning more about these forgotten soldiers from time long past. #willowickpost #ww2legionnaires

The museum’s collections include military equipment, uniforms, and insignia from that time period. From 1942- 1945, the Willowick National Military Museum served as the armory for the United States Army in Willoughby Township. This gave the museum access to an extensive collection of military hardware and supplies.
Willowick is a small town in eastern Ohio, United States. It was founded in 1824 by a group of settlers from New York City. The population was 1,923 at the 2010 census. Willowick is located on the Scioto River and is part of the Dayton–Middletown–Springfield, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name "Willowick" comes from the word willows that grow near its village center. The first settlers named their settlement after WILLOW HILLS, England's most northerly civil parish (now in Lancashire). The original post office was called Willowick but it changed to Willowick in 1828 because of competition from nearby Youngstown. In 1830, an act of Congress made Ohio an agricultural state and established four universities: University of Cincinnati (founded 1837), Miami University (1839), Western Reserve University (1846) and Ohio State Normal School (1868). In 1827-29, Major General Anthony Wayne led Ulysses S. Grant's army through central Ohio during the American Civil War as commander of Union forces at Camp Chase on the Scioto River. Willowick was one of several settlements along what is now I-670 east of Dayton that received supplies and troops during this war effort. After the end of World War II, Willowick experienced rapid growth due to its proximity to two major airports - Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton and George Washington International Airport outside Cleveland - as well as its role as a bedroom community for workers commuting into downtown Dayton or Cleveland respectively. The median household income increased from $38,500 in 2000 to $64,700 in 2010; however there has been significant economic decline since then due to factory closings and declined manufacturing jobs throughout much of Greater Cleveland area over recent years; although some contend that WillowICK has actually done better than other Toledo suburbs in terms Of job growth rate during this time period despite being close to both citiesCenterPointe mall & Univision de Toledo campus

Willowick was founded in 1812 by Captain John Smith and his wife, Elizabeth. The town's first store was built on the southeast corner of Front and Centre Streets. After being founded, Willowick rapidly grew into a small village with a population of around 100 people. In 1835, the Ohio General Assembly passed an act that granted township status to Willowick. In 1846, the village had grown so large that it became necessary to create a separate school district. The first school building was erected on Main Street in Willowick. Over time, additional buildings were constructed in the village, including a church and library. In 1958, the community built its own water tower which is still used today as a public works facility. Throughout its history, Willowick has been known for its manufacturing sector - most notably its production of flour and other agricultural products. More recently, the town has become known for its role in housing young adults during college years and their families after they've graduated from college. The economy of Willowick is primarily based on agriculture - specifically farming activities such as corn planting, wheat harvesting and haymaking - but also includes services such as plumbing and home heating/cooling systems; furthermore, there are several businesses located within walking distance of each other that support this economy through services like marketing or customer service
