Willowick is a small town in the eastern part of Ohio, located on the Scioto River. The population was 5,898 at the 2010 census. Willowick is a residential community that straddles the river, with a business district on one side and a small shopping center on the other. It is bordered by Mentor to the north, Lorain to the east, and Zoar to the south. The name Willowick comes from an early Indian word meaning "the place where I willows grow." The first settlers in what is now Willowick were farmers who arrived around 1800. They developed several farms and built gristmills and sawmills in what is now downtown Willowick. By 1825, most of these farmers had moved away, but some families still lived in Willuck Township until 1830 when it was organized as townships. In 1836, local resident Lewis Kapp donated land for what would become downtown Willowick. At this time there were only two buildings – a meetinghouse and schoolhouse – but over time more buildings were added including a Baptist church (1862), post office (1867), bank (1911), grocery store (1915), restaurant (1916-present), hotel (1923-present), and doctor's office (1960). During World War II many residents joined up to help with manufacturing projects or served in military units; many homes remain boarded up today as memories of those days linger in the community. After World War II, many people left for various reasons such as farming or moving away from rural areas into larger townships like Cleveland or Plainfield; however, some residents continued to live in their hometowns until they retired or died. Many businesses have since closed down due to economic conditions such as globalization or changing consumer preferences; however, several remain active including: First National Bank of Cleveland which has been open since 1914; The Grosvenor House Inn which has been open since 1927; Job Mart which opened its doors in 1978; and Amish Furniture stores where items are made by hand with traditional methods like quilting and weaving instead of machines like those used at modern mills. Downtown Willowick has seen rapid growth over recent decades thanks to annexation by Mentor following suburbanization across much of Greater Toledo during that decade – although there are no plans currently underway for any annexations within city limits pending approval from City Councilmember Rick Dykstra specifically about how best to manage growth potential given unique neighborhood needs etcetera.). Willowick, Ohio is a small town in the U.S. state of Ohio. The population was 593 at the 2010 census, down from 611 at the 2000 census. Willowick is located in Trumbull County, about 25 miles (40 km) east of Cleveland on I-80 and just north of Akron on I-675. The history of Willowick begins with early settlers who arrived around 1800. A post office called Willowick was established in 1815, and remained in operation until 1995. One of the first businesses in Willowick was a millinery shop operated by Mrs. Elizabeth Wilkinson from 1825 to 1830. In 1836, Isaac Goodrich founded what became Goodrich Furniture Company which manufactured saddles and other furniture products until 1924. In 1868, Copley Gage opened a sawmill here which continued operations until it closed in 1907 due to economic problems associated with World War II; however, part of the mill complex still stands today as Gage Sawmill Park (now known as Gage Park). According to the United States Census Bureau, Willowick has a total area of 0.8 square miles (2 km²), all land。 As of the census[1]of 2010,[5] there were 593 people residing in the town: 269 males and 259 females
