The United States Air Force deployed a gift of air force technology to Willowick, Ohio in 2010. The deployment was part of the " USAF Global Technology Cluster" program and it aimed to improve EW capabilities for the local military community. The cluster consisted of three companies: Raytheon Missile Defense, Northrop Grumman, and Lockheed Martin. The gifts were made possible through a five-year agreement between the United States Air Force and Raytheon Missile Defense. The company donated two Patriot missile systems and twoRelated Infrared Integration Units (RIU), which are used for ground communications with fighter planes. These units have been installed at Wright-Patterson AFB in Dayton, Ohio and Seymour Johnson AFB in Raleigh, NC. Northrop Grumman donated six F-15E Strike Eagle fighters and four AIM-9L Harpoon missiles. This donation was part of the " aircraft modernization effort" that aims to improve EW capabilities for American military forces worldwide. Lockheed Martin donated four F-35A Lightning II fighter jets and two AC/DC Chargers as well as eight MQ-1 Predator drones to support Special Operations Forces operations around the world.

Willowick is located on the southern border of Warren County and its eastern border is that of Stark County. The first permanent settler in what would become Willowick was Levi Coffin in 1814. A post office called Willoughby was established in 1821, and remained in operation until 1914. Willowick began as a farming community with subsistence agriculture becoming predominant by 1870. Manufacturing became an important industry beginning in the late 19th century; Willowick's most significant success came from two businesses founded by Nathan Cummings: Cummings Paper Company (founded 1892) and United States Paper Works (founded 1912). In 1965, Willowick became home to one of America's first solar energy plants when First Solar installed a 60 MW photovoltaic plant there. In recent years, Perry Township has emerged as a leading center for new business development in the town; many local companies have made their mark including Weyerhaeuser (manufacturing products), American Book Inc., JDS Uniphase Industries, Upper Arlington Savings Bank, and others. The towns' agricultural base continues to be dominant; although some businesses have moved into services such as accounting or social media management, much economic activity still takes place within manufacturing-heavy sectors like plastics and apparel production
